my asm told me that the reason i’m working 4 hours (four. hours) next week, is because our labor is so tight because our customer connection score of 65 and 10k daily isn’t enough to pay anyone the hours they want, even though they just hired 6 people during off season bringing our crew to about 35 people. availability wasn’t the issue, they just “didn’t want to see the same faces.” ok.
the solution, to this, is to have TWO. BARISTAS. Y’ALL. TWO. close on a SATURDAY. to save money. and when we get out 30 minutes late, it is our fault that we lost labor, and that our hours are going to continue to shrink until we “hustle.” ok. fuck it whatever.
another solution offered was to switch shifts with people to get more hours. i’ve attempted to switch a close with a 6:45 four times (without adding a lunch so there’s no issue there) and it’s only worked once. we were both fully trained, there was no reason for them to say no (we were both there for at least three hours).
ANOTHER solution offered, and the final one offered, was to call other stores for hours. when i did this on my thirty, i was reprimanded and asked if i wasn’t happy with my job if it was to the point of me going to other stores.
i need money so. bad. i don’t know what to do this sucks!!! and i LOOOVE my coworkers but my god management is making it so hard. my dm is even worse. and none of us would even bother bringing up unionizing as all of upper management is extremely conservative and would absolutely fire us for even mentioning it.

Nothing will improve until stores unionize. These are the same issues I faced when I worked at Sbux over 10-20 years ago.

That's why they're doing it. Clean sweep new hires. New people who've applied during the unionizing saga are less likely to ask for one because they probably didn't sign on for the drama. As much as a part of me is thinking damn the man, unionize to spite them all, it isn't the right move for everyone. A fully green bean store won't make better connection scores, and they keep wasting money training people that quit within weeks to months upon realizing how hard it is. Sbx is shooting itself in the foot. Voluntarily moving to a union set up, and let the union handle insurance etc. might actually be its best way out of this mess.
It's a hiring market for customer service, take care of yourself and get a new job. Quit with 2 weeks notice to keep the door open to return someday, but you can't be expected to weather this storm. My area's Chick Fil A is already starting party timers at the rate Sbx is promising us in the summer. Grocery stores are typically great for flexibility, alright pay, and transferring stores and departments until you find your fit. Seriously, take care of yourself. I'm strongly considering leaving, but I'll leave the door open too because I do love it. I just... hate it right now.

that’s exactly how i feel “hating it right now” :( the new hires are killing our connection scores and they’re putting them on the floor way more than us to “train” them it’s fucking miserable. and they keep leaving because we don’t have time to train them

35 people.. It's no wonder you can't get hours. That's fucking ridiculous. Don't know where you are but the Aldi's I shop by my Dad's is currently hiring at $18.50 to start with benefits. For anyone not getting their hours, it's definitely food for thought..

i’ve just been coming in off schedule to help out. my sm is barely around and idc if my presence to help close is too expensive. our cc scores are in the 40s bc we are physically incapable of talking to customers because of how understaffed we are. but ever since i’ve been coming in whenever i want to work/when im free we have been getting the scores up and im enjoying not just having 2 ppl on the floor during a night rush.

Came back for a third time and I’m looking for other work bc this shift is insane and it’s better to find something that is going to at least pay my rent man.
