Honestly people that get shaken drinks upside down have no idea what they’re ordering so just do it however you want
ephemereaux59 points1y ago
I guess I’d just pour the milk before pouring the shaken espresso… probably don’t want it to be separated lol, and I’d just put caramel drizzle on top ig ?
gabby2468117 points1y ago
That’s what I’ve been doing since those started appearing. And with the drizzle yeah I only ever apply “upside down” to milk and espresso order otherwise it gets very complicated drink-to-drink.
giftedburn0ut10 points1y ago
they asked for extra drizzle so I'd probably do it around the sides of the cup
Key-Consideration19015 points1y ago
😂😂😂 fr tho.
mrcupcake184 points1y ago
Dude wtf, I’m showing this to my partners immediately cause what? 😂
MiaLedger-12 points1y ago
I mean, that's not necessarily true. Upside down would be different than normal for this drink.
samanttha024 points1y ago
How can you do a shaken espresso upside down.
todaytrip19 points1y ago
Pour the almond milk in the cup first and then the shaken espresso
[deleted]-6 points1y ago
[deleted]
MiaLedger2 points1y ago
You put the milk in first, then shaken part second, instead of the other way around.
[deleted]113 points1y ago
Lol I agree make it how u want. If they are going to order a clown order they get a clown result lol 😂
Blue-Sky132519 points1y ago
I’m using this phrase in the future 🤣💀
[deleted]3 points1y ago
Lmao! My high school English teacher was always like listen up clown bait and ever since then when someone’s being dumb I think u clown 🤡 lol
permanently_anxious4 points1y ago
If you a clown imma clown too
wok3less95 points1y ago
GUYS WAIT I SOLVED THIS MYSTERY !! okay so i asked someone once what the meant when they got a shaken espresso upside down because i kept seeing it and had no clue what people meant. she told me theres no stirred or mixed option on mobile ordering, so the upside down is used to have the milk mixed in. changed my life
MiaLedger21 points1y ago
Thanks for the explanation! Makes sense.
ilovelimes33313 points1y ago
nah imma still put the milk first. if they wanted it shaken they can shake it themselves. do they want us to feed it to them too?
borrowedurmumsvcard18 points1y ago
it’s literally our job to make the customers drink how they want. they’re paying $7 for a drink the least we can do is make it correctly. if you really have that mindset you shouldn’t be working in customer service
ilovelimes3332 points1y ago
i make all the drinks to standard, but when its something so little that they can legit do themselves. like for example we get asked to cut the paninis in half a lot.. bro im sorry but can u not do that urself. taking advanatge of us when we get payed so little for what we do. if it says on the label i will do it bc yes, they did pay for it. but dont tell me i cant complain about my job. (also if a customer is reading this, im sorry i didnt mean it towards u. only to the ppl that do this or ask more from us than what our job requires. if you are respectful to us we love u & u make us not wanna quit😌💕)
haydensidun4 points1y ago
I agree that we’re underpaid but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t give a fuck. We were hired to cater to the customer and that includes cutting their panini in half, shaking the espresso, and all the little stuff. We signed up for exactly that and doing those little things aren’t us being taken advantage of.
djk11013 points1y ago
You signed up to do exactly that lmao. Idk how you’re complaining about cutting a panini in half when it takes like 10 extra seconds and we’re supposed to make the moment right for the customer. That’s an extremely mild request. Yea pay isn’t amazing, but I’d complain more about cleaning the bathroom or something than when a customer asks for a panini cut in half.
Paid-Not-Payed-Bot-3 points1y ago
> we get *paid* so little
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
IthacanPenny11 points1y ago
>if they wanted it shaken they can shake it themselves.
*H O W ? ?* I would have drink allllll over my shirt and/or car if I did that. Shaking is definitely something I’d want done behind the counter if that’s how I ordered my drink.
wok3less1 points1y ago
putting the milk first mixes it- but its the same amount of effort to fill the milk to the shaker line when u shake the espresso
lilcox14191 points1y ago
prepare the dropper
GiveMeCoffeeFreeze2 points1y ago
Someone kept mobile ordering a shaken espresso upside down and I kept making it normal with no complaints. One time I actually saw her and I had time so I asked her and she looked at me like a deer in headlights and said she had no idea and to just make it normal. I told her I’ve been making it normal all this time and asked her if she’s been happy with it like that and she was. Ended up being a good exchange.
wok3less2 points1y ago
people really underestimate how easy it is to just ask
monicamac5230 points1y ago
milk first? 🤣🤣😭
zedadire29 points1y ago
definitely milk first, then add the shaken stuff on top. it's pretty!
PunishedTitan9 points1y ago
So it’s an affogato for no reason other than how it looks
MiaLedger4 points1y ago
I mean you'll also get more espresso in the first sips and more milk later and they might prefer that.
Pristine_Chipmunk78216 points1y ago
More what?
glo-frog3 points1y ago
zoom zoom coffee faster shipping
MiaLedger1 points1y ago
Espresso
zedadire1 points1y ago
I mean at Starbucks affogato specifically only applies to frappucinos
UserNoUsername23 points1y ago
when i get something like this i put the milk in the cup before pouring the shaken shots over it
Complimentary-butter22 points1y ago
Hmm.. they might want the milk shaken in there with the shots and ice so everything is mixed together well, but there’s really no other way to convey that through a mobile order, besides saying, “make it upside-down.” People come through our drive-thru and ask for shaken espresso drinks to be made this way pretty often, but idk! Just a guess:)
Galactic_96 points1y ago
Tru, I guess online doesn't have the "Stirred" option like the POS system does, but idk I almost want to try creating an upside shaken espresso lol. I wonder if it's just be like a chocolate malt macchiato lol, with foam 😂
djdementia6 points1y ago
To a lot of customers Upside Down is essentially code for stirred.
Galactic_91 points1y ago
Very interesting, I wonder if that's what people think they are getting when they see an upside-down caramel macchiato now 🤔 To be fair, before I started working here, I don't think I would've known any better either 😂
KableKyle14 points1y ago
At my store upside down means shake it with the milk inside
Perathion13 points1y ago
With anger
thatswackrhi4 points1y ago
this one. this is the funniest.
Already-disarmed7 points1y ago
Aww.. everybody else has all these helpful logical answers that make total sense. I was thinking make the drink, seal the lid with duct tape, invert the cup, stab a hole in the bottom and jab a straw in there... But yeah, I'm also an idiot.
imvni5 [OP]5 points1y ago
See the first I made it my first instinct was to make the drink normally and put it on the hand off upside down. So you’re not alone 😂
Cultural-Ad11676 points1y ago
Customers get caramel macchiatos “upside down” because they want the contents all mixed up instead of the layers. So when I see the “upside down” anywhere else, I assume the same is true. Best believe I make a true upside macchiato for those rude customers - I put the caramel drizzle first, shots, ice, milk, then if I’m REALLY fancy, the vanilla last.
Maleficent_Beyond6656 points1y ago
Honestly, I would wait until they show up and ask them. Most likely they're just looking to have their drink stirred or shaken with milk, they just don't want the separation. But you never know which customer will blow up at you because it's made wrong so it's just best to wait if you can.
imvni5 [OP]2 points1y ago
Every time I come across this customers drink I always seem to miss them coming in so I can ask.
Maleficent_Beyond6654 points1y ago
...but it's their only drink. Just keep it behind the counter, they can't walk away if there isn't a drink to take. When they ask you where it is, that's your moment
mewwissa5 points1y ago
Milk first, pour the shaken espresso in after :)
briameowmeow5 points1y ago
I just make it like normal and say I made it upside down.
Pale_Manufacturer_775 points1y ago
Line it with drizz then make it normally in the shaker, then look how much room is left in the shaker for the size and try to pour that amount, then shots/chocolate then more drizz
glowml4 points1y ago
they have no idea what they ordered just do it your own way 😂
thatswackrhi2 points1y ago
i think the problem here is they dont realize what a shaken espresso is and are trying to make the barista “correctly” make a “latte.”
catarinavanilla2 points1y ago
Make it regular because they don’t know wtf they’re talking about
RubySapphireSage2 points1y ago
I swear they don’t be knowing what they be putting on their orders , had a customer complain yesterday that honey citrus tea came with mint told him several times it did not .. proceeded to say it did ..
Responsible_Snow71092 points1y ago
U mean the HCMT (honey citrus mint tea)? Cuz that tea comes with 1 mint tea bag and one peach tea bag
RubySapphireSage2 points1y ago
No I mean peppermint syrup .
Responsible_Snow71092 points1y ago
Ohh ok yea it definitely doesnt come with that lol. People never kno what theyre ordering. Wen im going to a food or beverage place and i wana buy something especially if its for the first time, i always google about it or check the companys website for a description but people just order things and assume it comes one way the entire time and then catch an attitude when theyre told it doesnt come that way
RenuhhBunn0 points1y ago
Well technically it does tho cause the citrus tea has mint in it too. It's a peach tranquility tea bag and a citrus mint tea bag with the honey and lemonade. I was also told the old version of this drink had honey and peppermint in it but they changed it🤷🏼♀️
RubySapphireSage2 points1y ago
That’s not what I meant I’m saying mint as I’m peppermint syrup lol .
RenuhhBunn0 points1y ago
Gotcha my bad, they probably are thinking of the old recipe then that did have peppermint syrup in it too but they have since change the recipe so now it doesn't
OrderedMyLaughOnEbay2 points1y ago
Honestly I just wanna know what state this is because it looks so nice outside at 7 am
Beautiful-Director2 points1y ago
An extra scoop of malt powder, ice to the grande instead, caramel drizzle around the cup, almond milk on the bottom, then pour shaker contents on top. If its not filled to the top, I would top it with more milk.
Smooth_Design88292 points1y ago
I mean if I came home to a light blonde that’s upside down with choc and Carmel drizzle all over her I’d be ecstatic and a fantasy would be fulfilled
OrderedMyLaughOnEbay1 points1y ago
What the hell 😭😭😭
Smooth_Design88290 points1y ago
Sorry wrong thread 😂
BlueWaters992 points1y ago
This drink would probably taste better with the milk shaken with the coffee/chocolate malt/ice. I think. Because the choc malt is so heavy if there is any non-dissolved malt it will just sit on the bottom if not shaken enough. What do you think?
MiaLedger2 points1y ago
Caramel drizzle in the cup, almond milk roughly to the first line, shaker contents, more drizzle.
It's pretty simple and self expanitory.
FLMFGGT2 points1y ago
Caramel drizzle, milk, then pull shots and shake them on ice with the malt powder and pour that on top
aee782 points1y ago
Pour the milk in the cup first and then the shaken shots on top.
bottlehalffull1 points1y ago
I shake the milk in when they ask for this
peacefrog_261 points1y ago
Why not order a latte with malt powder
gemi-high1 points1y ago
wait till they get there and ask what they want upside down exactly
haydensidun1 points1y ago
1. Extra caramel drizzle in the cup
2. Almond milk in the cup to the second line
3. Pull 4 blonde shots
4. Put a grande scoop of ice and 6 scoops of malt powder (I add half of the standard scoops—in this case, 2 extra scoops—because it wasn’t specified how much extra they want) in a shaker
5. Pour the espresso in the shaker and shake it
6. Pour the shaken espresso in the cup
7. Top with a caramel drizzle crosshatch
FfierceLaw1 points1y ago
The milk is supposed to go on top because it’s not certain how full the cup will be from the shaken espresso, ice and syrup. If you add milk first all the shaken espresso may not fit in. For the same reason it would not work to put the milk in the shaker. Someone who doesn’t want layers should get a latte with the same flavors
getcassedfag1 points1y ago
i usually tell my baristas to pour the milk in last in the shaker to the top line before shaking it, that usually does the trick!!
twilights_heiress1 points1y ago
personally i would shake the malt and almond milk with ice and then pour the shots on top-
[deleted]1 points1y ago
[deleted]
Jack-Arthur1 points1y ago
Literally just make it like a machiatto at my store and dissolve the malt powder in the milk. It's so dumb, but honestly good on them for saving a few bucks.
Elliotisnotokay1 points1y ago
Honestly I'd either make it like normal or just put the drizzle on the bottom of the cup
3picboss31 points1y ago
Upside down iced caramel macchiato gets made in this order: caramel drizzle, espresso, ice, milk, vanilla flavor. Change my mind
QuackMcQuacks1 points1y ago
The way we do it at my store is put the milk in the cup first to the 3rd line, then shake the ice and espresso together then pour it on top
itachisbigbootygf1 points1y ago
pour the milk in the cup first and extra caramel drizzle on the cup and top
tiger-paaw1 points1y ago
Honestly Like a latte or a macchiato
graylikesoap1 points1y ago
probs put drizzle and milk into the cup, shake the shots w ice and the extra malt and pour it in. even if it ends up just blended together at least you can say you technically made it upside down. they probably don’t know what it means and just wanted to find out so they pressed the button
Luke_Lantern1 points1y ago
First, drizzle the cup walls, then add the milk and half a tall scoop of ice. Then construct the rest in the shaker with half the ice you'd normally use, shake, and pour into the cup, leaving a good 2 inches of room. Top off with some more drizzle and all set.
juicyspitwater1 points1y ago
starbucks refers to upside down as shots. if you like in the mobile app, you can only add the upside down option through the shots drop down menu
starjamespma1 points1y ago
step one: cry
RenuhhBunn1 points1y ago
When people ask for it upside I always just assume they want it mixed together instead of it being layered like usual. So since they want extra caramel drizzle they way I'd make it is shake everything in the shaker together; milk espresso chocolate malt powder and ice with caramel drizzle on the walls of the cup, pour the drink in the cup and then top it off with more drizzle since they want extra 🤷🏼♀️
Garrickrelentless1 points1y ago
Splash of almond milk in the cup, shake other ingredients and pour on top. Easy!
ProfessionalBall68171 points1y ago
okay so i actually had to do this earlier too,,, my store halves the amount of ice that we put into the shaker and the other half goes into the cup with a splash of dairy. THEN we put the espresso in :)
tekkil1 points1y ago
I feel like they don't like how it's topped off with milk so they want it more mixed in which is so stupid they'd say it's upside down ugh
BluejayHefty2021 points1y ago
Like a macchiato
BluejayHefty2021 points1y ago
Like a macchiato
eipandaexpress1 points1y ago
They want it all mixed together, I bet you if you ask if this is the case they will say yes
[deleted]1 points1y ago
[removed]
First_Leather_11591 points1y ago
I would but the extra caramel drizzle, the almond milk to the first line, and pour some ice in it and then strain the espresso over it. There would be some room.
aspoonfulofsammy111 points1y ago
Pour the milk in first or just mix the milk into the drink.
Necessary_Low9391 points1y ago
Milk first n shaken espresso later so they don’t needa stir in the espresso.
ProfessionalRock79401 points1y ago
When I mark out my shaken espressos I put upside down so the milk gets shaken in with everything else 🤷♀️
imvni5 [OP]4 points1y ago
That makes sense! Sometimes its difficult to determine what some customers really want, especially through mobile ordering.
ProfessionalRock79403 points1y ago
Exactly! And like ..if your drink is that complicated just order at the store jfc
SatanicPisces1 points1y ago
i guess i would put in a little bit of milk to the ridge at the bottom of the cup, then put in the drink and if it wasn’t full i’d just add more ice
nicathor1 points1y ago
I'm guessing they hate how the almond milk floats above the espresso so I'd shake the shots with all the powder and ice like normal, but put the almond milk in the cup first and pour the shaker contents into the milk
uwumoment1 points1y ago
i’ve made this before i just put the milk in first then the shots and ice on top
sero50741 points1y ago
Make a swamp
wonderess2211 points1y ago
i just wouldn’t
LeftManatee19820 points1y ago
I have the right answer 🤣🤣🤣
They want their drink to summon the upSide down (stranger things reference)
wunderkyn0 points1y ago
Shots on top? Idunno anymore🤷🏾♂️🤣
Decapp_0 points1y ago
I had a drink like this yesterday and all you do is put the milk first :))
luvduvbunny-3 points1y ago
I guess just a regular iced latte? Don’t bother shaking it up
