Is this doing too much? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sadgirlzzzz
I saw a TikTok of a barista saying she got called in on her day off and she said she does not have a ride to go to work and they sent someone to pick her up. I looked at the comments and apparently this happens often??? Like the manager will go pick up the barista themselves or send an Uber???

I think that’s doing too much LOL just take the L and move on wtf!

EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION: I am talking about managers not taking the hint that someone does not want to come in to work n just sending them an Uber or coming to get them themselves LOL

100% doing too much. If they are off, let them be. If they wanna come in however, I guess it’s not.

We have a couple college students and partners who are unable to drive and sometimes another partner will pick them up and drive them home when they get on or off at the same time but that is just too much. Manager should just ask someone else or let it go

idk sometimes i’m petty like yeah i’ll do it but y’all gotta get me there because the train is going to take me 45 minutes alone so what’s in it for me lmao

Lol same. If i cant cover a shift, ill just tell them i cant and give em a reason. But if i can cover a shift, ill tell them i can but that i have no way of getting there if i dont since i dont drive and theres one car shared in my household. But one time my manager asked if i can cover a shift and i said yea but the car is not at home so my boyfriend cant drive me and she paid for my uber. Im not opposed to makin money if im available to do so or feel like doing so on my off days. But if i dont have a ride and im off that day, im not guna pay for uber. So if she wants to, fine with me

Edit: spelling. I spelled paid by putting in "payed"... Whoops

> and she *paid* for my

FTFY.

Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:

* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*

* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*

Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

My manager is 100% willing to pay for your ubers and lyft for picked up shifts etc. If it means your on time and there, he's cool with it

Oh uh I meant managers not taking the hint that someone does not want to come in on their day off so they send them a ride LOL
Sirmarchboy22 1 points 1y ago
I tell them no all the time. I'm not required to come in on scheduled time off, they are just asking. They can't retaliate if you don't lol
Sirmarchboy22 1 points 1y ago
Lmao I guess but rather then lie about it, just say no.
sadgirlzzzz [OP] 1 points 1y ago
It doesn’t have to be a lie though. They could just not have a ride and be honest. I’ve had my car battery not start and called to let them know and they didn’t offer a ride to make me come in still. If they did that’s when I would say no Bc hello let me deal w my only means of transportation LOL just an example but I get what u mean
Sirmarchboy22 1 points 1y ago
If they don't have a ride, and that's their only reason, why would that be doing too much? Again. Unless that's a lie, which could easily be avoided, to not feel guilty about saying no then it doesn't make sense

Do they get you home too? Asking a co-worker is fine, but just assuming a co-worker's taking you home would make me (the co-worker with a car in this scenario) resentful after a while.
Sirmarchboy22 3 points 1y ago
Yea. More profitable for some stores to send you home and stuff etc then to not have another barista. And one time I put my milage in the book to pick up another barista

We have lots of partners without a ride and normally we are understaffed. My SM does too much sometimes and literally goes out of his way to pick us up but at the same time it’s kinda nice to know that they care enough to pick them up 😅😅
