Tips+Tricks for bar (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by TripleV420
Friday was my last full day of training! The only thing I had difficulty doing was bar. I’m constantly forgetting how much shots and pump of syrups go in certain size drinks. And I feel like I’m in the way. I’m honestly scared of going on bar

When your steaming milk, use two hands to get the aerating sound for a better grip/more control. When you pull away the steaming pitcher, grab the handle with one hand and the sanitizer rag with your other: wipe the steaming Wand off with the rag as you pull the steaming pitcher away.
For that matter, use two hands for everthing: pumping syrup or base; shaking a drink; pouring contents into a blending pitcher. Use two hands for all of it: it helps you get full pumps, avoid spills, and overall quality control.
Except for Fraps, use the ice scoop that is one size down for iced drinks: because more often than not your scooping too much ice (standard is a flat top scoop, but people tend to round the top of the scoop)
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, melt white chocolate and other thick syrups with the espresso before you add milk and/or ice.

I just tie it behind my head+cover with a beanie

Edit: I... may have misread the question

Practice. That’s really the only thing that will help. Watch other partners when they are on bar if you can and if your supervisors are cool with it use down time to make drinks for practice!

Hey green bean!!!

Recipes take forever to learn, be easy. Time takes time. Just keep asking to be put there... And focus on routine!!! If you're good at routine you're good at bar. Sense of urgency, recipes, muscle memory, all come after being Zen with routine.

Put the summary of # of shots and syrup pump cheat sheet on top of your bar for reference! It should look like a matrix and be in your stores recipe cards
