today i was yelled at for making an iced matcha in a shaker, the customer wanted it made “the right way” in the foam blender x_x
Electrical_Metal_106216 points1y ago
Did you offer them an application since they clearly know the job already??
HearingEquivalent887 [OP]120 points1y ago
i literally was so shocked. with the most condescending tone she was like “i want it made the right way” and i was literally so stunned so i said “i made it the right way, but if you want it made in a blender then i’ll make it in a blender” and then she started yelling at my shift to get her attention and told her the same thing she just told me and then asked for corporates number and i literally laughed
victorious_gem45 points1y ago
uhhh booo. I hate that, that happened to you. this has always been my "fear". everyone in my store uses the cf blender for ice matcha lattes. I don't think shaking it is hard && I would literally be so pissed if a customer yelled at me for it. I would've pulled out the recipe card for them 🤣
briameowmeow19 points1y ago
We shake unless it’s over 5 scoops or so. We have regulars who order 12+ scoop no ice matchas four or five times a day. I’m not shaking those. It doesn’t produce a good drink.
HearingEquivalent887 [OP]13 points1y ago
if you pour your milk in the shaker and then add the matcha and shake with no ice it leaves no clumps. then i add ice and shake again to make it cold. just a tip
FfierceLaw10 points1y ago
When they order more than 10 scoops in a venti, I just can't get the clumps out. I shake 100 times, put it in the blender, still clumpy. Customer blamed me saying my scoops were too big
dontgiveah00t23 points1y ago
Ooh just wait til the summer launch and it costs an extra $.50 to blend it 😂
2166K8 points1y ago
A few months ago, a regular that I didn’t usually make drinks for came in (I never AVOIDED making her drinks, I just never happened to be on cold bar when she came in). She ordered a venti matcha with light ice, and I got to making it.
I worked at two stores: one in my home town, and one near my college a few cities away. At my City Store, we always used the blender. At my home store, we usually used the shakers. I personally think that using the foam blender makes the drink a lot nicer, so I figured I’d do that for her drink.
I make the venti matcha. It’s completely to standard. I hand it to her, and she was absolutely pissed. Just a nasty attitude all around, spoke to me in a very condescending manner. She demanded that I make it again, and I ask what was wrong. She won’t tell me what’s wrong. I ask again, and explain that if she tells me what’s wrong, I can make the next drink correctly. She tells me there’s too much foam. I kindly say “oh, I’m sorry about that, I’ll make you another right away” and she tells me to use the shaker, not the blender.
Of course, I listen. I make it in the shaker, hand it to her… and there’s a little bit more foam in THIS drink because of course that’s what happens with the shaker. I handed it to her, and she gives me this smug look and is all “see? That’s how you’re supposed to make it.”
I just smiled and she took both drinks with her out the door… of course she started drinking the FIRST one I’d made instead of the one that she claimed was made properly. Sneaky (and rude) way of getting a free drink, I guess.
I loved most of my customers at both stores, but some just had a way of getting under my skin by constantly insisting something was wrong when it wasn’t.
Immediate-Law-30005 points1y ago
Yeah…we do have the right to refuse to make their drink if they’re rude though so that’s what I do these days 🤷🏽♂️ I don’t have time for that negativity in my life anymore lmaoooo
FfierceLaw47 points1y ago
Uh oh, stores that make it in the foam blender pitcher, you are now the "other Starbucks."
Necessary_Low93942 points1y ago
In the foam blender is not the right way but it’s the better way in terms of the drink outcome, no clumps and less foam. Honestly I think Starbucks should consider changing up how to make drinks that has powder in them. The foam blender is also great for blending those coconut milk drinks such as pink drink. I don’t have to shake my heart out for the two components to mend together. Think of it like those automatic shakers from those bubble tea shops.
herpaslurp26 points1y ago
it's a huge waste of time and uses a high frequency tool.
Necessary_Low939-17 points1y ago
U put the same contents in the shaker and requires ur manpower to shake it. Almost the same time.
cookiemonstah877 points1y ago
Our cold foam blenders are almost always occupied by cold foam because we get so many orders with it. Plus shaking takes like 5 seconds while the blenders take 15. I'm also not really sure why people see less foam as a benefit, that's part of the drink.
Necessary_Low9391 points1y ago
Oh ok. Not my store. Almost no one orders vsccf. It’s a business area.

Necessary_Low9396 points1y ago
That changed. U can shake milk in the shaker. I don’t like using the shaker because it created too much foam for dairy milks. A lot of times customers get two inches less product because of this. The foam blender doesn’t creat that much foam and also creates a creama layer which matte drinks for have if they siffed the matcha powder using that broom looking thing the traditional way.
[deleted]13 points1y ago
After about of year of my coworkers just using the cf blender, and even seeing my store manager doing it, I’ve caved and just started too. If you can’t beat them join them, plus now we have a ton of customers who want iced matches with “no foam” which is nearly impossible in the shaker.
Independent-Ear914011 points1y ago
a customer told me that I “didn’t make it to standard” and that the other Starbucks does it. like ma’am I can put it in the foam blender but I’ve worked here for 5 years don’t tell me the “standards”
Blonde-RU2-Mastrena11 points1y ago
I made a no ice *stirred* matcha with blonde espresso in the foam blender. Because ain't nobody got time for that. They clearly did not want it shaken and this was the only way besides stirring it manually. 🤷🏻♀️ Not exactly "the right way" but...it got the job done.
Responsible_Snow710919 points1y ago
Lol theres a guy who literally comes to my store sometimes and gets a misto with steamed half n half and stevia or splenda or some shit and he asks is to stir it for him. ???? Instead of asking for a stir stick so he can do it, he asks us to do it. All the rest of our customers understand that we cant stop and stir everyones drinks so they ask for stirrers so they can do it themselves. But this one guy is so arrogant and he even does the hand motion of stirring and the one time he came in to order that same drink, and before he finished I said "stirred in rite?" And he chuckled and said "ahh good girl!"...ew
Blonde-RU2-Mastrena4 points1y ago
Good girl? 😬
Responsible_Snow71095 points1y ago
Yepp. Ill ring this guy up sometimes wen he comes in and wen he starts ordering his misto with the stuff in it, before he gets done talking I'll say and you want it stirred right? And that's when he will chuckle and he will say good girl. Or I'll be on bar making drinks and another Barista who is not familiar with his order will be bringing him up and I'll tell them yeah he wants it stirred I know he says good girl to me at that point too. Its demeaning. Im not ur fucking dog or ur slave
aee783 points1y ago
Oh hell no. I'd tell him to leave.
Nogood111110 points1y ago
I only use the foam blender for multipleatcha lattes, makes it easy in a rush to get more drinks out faster. But it's definitely not standard
bonersz9 points1y ago
kinda annoying that a lot of ppl in the comments are saying "oh well i put it in the foam blender.. i know its not standard but it looks nicer" bro u guys are part of the reason why this customer thinks its standard.!;!/?- you know its wrong, you do it anyways, and then you sit there and wonder why cussies get mad when its not the same every time 😵💫😵💫 theres a **standard** for a reason my friend
BeardiesRule1128 points1y ago
Some people also put the matcha in a shaker with a little bit of hot water, swish it around then add milk/ice.
makmelaf176 points1y ago
Don't u love when baristas don't follow the ways, then customers think ur doing things wrong when u do it correctly... fun times
kristis32333 points1y ago
Shouldn’t it cost extra if you cf blend it? I mean that’s kinda changing the drink right
cookiemonstah872 points1y ago
I'm genuinely curious, why do so many people here see no/less foam as a benefit? It's part of the drink if made properly.
I'm not a fan of our matcha personally, it's way too sweet. I do love shaken espressos though, and I would be pretty upset if my shaken espresso was made with no foam, even if everything else was done to standard.
herpaslurp2 points1y ago
shouldve printed out the recipe card for her
galaxydisco171 points1y ago
My recipe cards says to pour the milk in the cup, add to shaker, matcha scoops, then ice.
When did it change to use the foam blenders?
Acrobatic_Relation581 points1y ago
I was trained at a store where that’s how they make it. I was taught the right way with the shaker. The foam blender makes it foamy I hate it
francescugh1 points1y ago
i only ever make my own personal matchas in the blender bc less foam but -.- yikes
crzyshiba1 points1y ago
I do this but for my own drink … and if it’s not busy and they are nice lol I’ll make it like this
sero50741 points1y ago
At caribou they make it in a blender so maybe that’s what they was talking about
Joranaxis1 points1y ago
I make it in the cold foam blender because I’m lazy but hate the powder chunks And it makes less foam but thats. Thats not the standard. Where did she learn thats the standard?? Who is telling her that’s the standard???

natalie_____1 points1y ago
can someone please explain the right way to do it in the blender?
spongepants1911 points1y ago
Measure like normal amounts and put it in the blender on four. It actually blends the matcha sooooo much smoother
FfierceLaw1 points1y ago
ice too?
KenansCloud4 points1y ago
I assume not
natalie_____-2 points1y ago
cool, ill try it! thank you so much 😸
cookiemonstah875 points1y ago
Please don't do this for customers unless they request it!!! Making drinks not to standard makes the rest of our lives more difficult!
FairProfessional05 points1y ago
The blender isn’t the right way to do it, the customer was wrong hence why OP made the post. Shaker is standard.
losinglittlebylittle3 points1y ago
Funnily enough in the UK our recipe card is to blend the matcha in a frap jug on 1, weird right lol?
AtTheBarMatt2 points1y ago
There is no right way to do it, I dump them every time I see my baristas doing this it is not standard stop doing it
Necessary_Low9391 points1y ago
From what the other person said and adding on: I suggest put the powder first think milk and ice. They said press 4, I never tried it. I usually press 3.
[deleted]4 points1y ago
No put the powder on top if your making in the blender or it’ll just stick to the bottom tf. Milk, ice, powder on top. The ice will spin the powder around through the drink evenly, powder on the bottom = stuck to the bottom. Don’t do that. Also shaking it is the proper way
Necessary_Low9390 points1y ago
No I tried putting the powder on the top and it doesn’t get blended in the drink enough.
I know shaking is the proper way.
silentflower80 points1y ago
i only make them in the cf blender when i’m on cold bar and i’m helping out my hot bar partners. i personally prefer it bc it doesn’t come out as foamy as the shaker does. the customers tend to prefer them with no foam anyway
Levyxxy-4 points1y ago
The standard here is in the blender
HearingEquivalent887 [OP]1 points1y ago
lol ur wrong it’s literally the shaker unless you’re working for a different company
Levyxxy-3 points1y ago
Do you work for the company even? There’s no need to be so rude. We blend it on one in the frap jugs and the cup gets ice, then you just pour it on-top. Lol It’s not my fault that not every Starbucks follows the American branch standards
HearingEquivalent887 [OP]0 points1y ago
lol then specify that you’re in a different country because in the states the standard is shaken
Levyxxy-3 points1y ago
Oh sorry didn’t even realise since you never even specified yourself, maybe in future you should to begin with
