Questions I should know but am too afraid to ask. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Ghirahim016
So I’ve been a partner for a fat minute now and while i know what I’m doing most of the time, there’s some things I still don’t know and I feel like embarrassed to ask at this point cause I definitely should know them.

1.) What syrup and how many pumps go into cold brew, salted caramel cold brew, vanilla sweet cream cold brew?

2.) How many shots go into shaken espressos per size?

3.) I know classic syrup is kinda like a wild card and feel its always in the most obscure drinks. Like I think it goes into strawberry creme fraps but what other drinks does it go in (fraps or non fraps)

There’s probably more but these are the main ones I can think of now! Any help is tremendously appreciated😂

1. standard cold brew is gonna be 3,4,6,7 for T/G/V/Tr when asked for added syrup. But the salted caramel, and vanilla sweet cold brew (as well as pumpkin) are 1,2,3,4 of vanilla syrup

2. shaken espressos are 2,3,4 shots for T/G/V

3. All iced coffees come standard with classic, as well as the strawberry frap and matcha frap.
Thee_Lizard_Head 16 points 1y ago
To piggy back on this. Matcha frap gets 2/3/4 and strawberry and cream gets 1/2/2 for classic.
ihateyousoymatcha 5 points 1y ago
Honestly just curious and not coming @ you or anything. Do your cards specify if Matcha is half dose classic?

Ours either say 2/3/4 CBS or 1/2/2 hot bar pumps.

1/2/2 is the full dose measurement, which they started putting on cards because stores don't always have a half pump and it's more precise than pushing a pump half way down. It's the equivalent of 2/4/4 CBS pumps.
Thee_Lizard_Head 1 points 1y ago
So I just double checked today and those pumps are full dose!!
ihateyousoymatcha 2 points 1y ago
Wow! I just checked ours too, and the POS.

I think everyone at my store is making them wrong! 😂I gotta post this in our group chat lol

So strawberry is standard frap pumps CBS:2/3/4 or BAR:1/2/2, but Matcha is 2/3/4 full pumps.
Thee_Lizard_Head 1 points 1y ago
They are cbs pumps but they differ. I read it on the recipe cards in store resources a few weeks ago to reconfirm because my store was all over the place on it.
notrachelmar 1 points 1y ago
yeah i thought that matcha frap and strawberry frap both get CBS pumps and the same amount? i’m not positive as i haven’t read the recipe for those in 6 years
felinefireghost 1 points 1y ago
CBS pumps or regular pumps?
cookiemonstah87 5 points 1y ago
Oh my god, the cold brew vanilla is 1,2,3,4??? I was never taught that! 😭
ihateyousoymatcha 1 points 1y ago
I just looked it up again. It looks like full pumps go 1/2/3/4 but CBS pumps go 3/4/6/7.

So if you have a half pump the tall and Trenta are slightly different

To add to 3, a normal shaken espresso and the chocolate almond milk shaken espresso also gets classic syrup.

Edit: At least, I truly hope so bc that's what I've been believing :$. Have not officially checked though, as a disclaimer.
blue-puddle 34 points 1y ago
The chocolate almond milk shaken espresso doesn’t get classic, only the regular one!
apple_low 9 points 1y ago
I'm so glad this one isn't too popular then so I didn't make too many wrong ones 😅. Thanks!
persona-2 2 points 1y ago
I’m pretty sure the regular one is only ordered as “no classic sub white mocha”. I don’t think I’ve ever had one without it being modified.
dazedinreverse 3 points 1y ago
Don't feel bad, when I was hired in November I was trained that the bsose got classic but that was also very wrong and I had to correct my trainer 3 months later thanks to reddit😅
szn2episode3 1 points 1y ago
yesss i knew i was forgetting something thank you!!
apple_low 1 points 1y ago
Ofc!
Jena876543 24 points 1y ago
Whenever I forget I just ring one into the register and look at the pump or shot count. You can also ask forgetting is very common and no one will judge you for it
ihateyousoymatcha 3 points 1y ago
I do that but the register doesn't specify half or full pumps. I think it puts everything in full pumps and people get confused by it
kimememememe 5 points 1y ago
No need to be embarrassed!! Definitely better to ask and get clarification than consistently make drinks wrong (@ the girl at my store who didn’t know the Java Chip gets mocha 😅). Another commenter already answered your questions, but if you ever need a reminder I’d suggest pulling up the drink as if you were placing a mobile order in the app! It’ll show you the standard recipe for whatever size you’re looking for. If you’re at a corporate store I believe y’all also have an iPad with a partner resources app (or website? idk I’m at a licensed store so we don’t have one of these so take this advice with a grain of salt.

I have a different way of remembering some of this so here's my take on it:

1 **Named Cold Brews** (with a syrup in the drink title) get half dose/cold bar pumps of vanilla in the cup. Other flavours (salt, caramel, pumpkin) are 2 full pumps in the foam.

Named *NITRO* Cold Brews do not get vanilla in the cup.
Regular "Cold Brew" with syrup added gets standard full dose pumps.

2 **Shaken Espressos** all get Americano Shots, and half dose/CBS pumps of sryup. This is why you might have a Classic bottle with a half pump.

3 **Classic Syrup** goes in

standard shaken espressos (half dose),

ice coffee (full dose),

strawberry and matcha creme fraps (full dose 1/2/2),

and custom tea lattes. There are two exceptions here with their own button. London Fog gets vanilla, and Royal English Breakfast Latte gets LCS.

Another nonstandard drink is Honey Citrus Mint Tea. This recipe is based on the number of honey packets we used to use before the sryup arrived. s/t/g/v get 1/1/2/2 of Honey Blend.

It's important to note that LCS, Brown Sugar, and Toasted Vanilla should only have a half dose pump in them. Any drink with these syrups get half dose.

what really helps me is knowing what the max is for a drink and then counting down. so for instance i know that a venti iced americano gets 4 shots so then logically a grande would get three and so on.

somethings that i didn’t know until recently is that for honey citrus mint tea’s you always do two pumps of honey blend and that royal english breakfast lattes get liquid cane but that earl grey gets vanilla.
ihateyousoymatcha 1 points 1y ago
Heads up, Honey Citrus is 1/1/2/2 so only the grande and Venti get 2 pumps!

It's based on how many honey packets we put in before there was a syrup
cookiemonstah87 1 points 1y ago
All earl grey lattes get vanilla? I thought that was only if they order a London fog?
HearingEquivalent887 3 points 1y ago
that’s what i meant lol
cookiemonstah87 1 points 1y ago
Ah OK, cool! Just making sure, I already learned a couple things from this post, just wanted to make sure this wasn't another. Haha

I’ve been a partner for almost 12 years and I still have to ask every now and then. The newer drinks can sometimes get a little bit confusing. It may also be my age 🤷‍♂️
ihateyousoymatcha 2 points 1y ago
Yeah going from the old Double Shot On Ice to shaken espressos was a headache until I realized it was Americano Shots and standard half dose syrup
garciajen98 0 points 1y ago
1. Cold brew by itself is not sweetened. Salted caramel and Vanilla Sweet cream get half pumps (CB). So if normally a tall gets 3 pumps then you’ll do 1.5 reg pump or 3 cold bar pumps.
2. Shaken espressos is now 2,3,4 for Tall, Grande, and Venti. Those also get half pumps of syrup (CB).
3. Classic goes into shaken espressos, iced coffee (full pump), matcha frap (full pump not CB), strawberry however gets cold bar pump.

When in doubt I would always check the register for clarification. For cold bar drinks, it’s supposed to be half pumps (CB pumps) per Starbucks standard. However, there are exclusions like the matcha frap. If you have beverage crafting cards, I’d look at those to refresh your memory. No one will judge you :) hope this helps and if I’m incorrect about anything feel free to correct me
persona-2 2 points 1y ago
Salted caramel and sweet cream get full pumps. It’s 1/2/3/4 vanilla. Recipe card shows full pumps not half.
ihateyousoymatcha 1 points 1y ago
They don't put both pump counts on the cards because a lot of stores don't use half pumps. But if you have them, the CBS pumps are 3/4/6/7. It's slightly different for tall and Trenta.

We had a huge discussion about this because of the frappaccino recipies last year
persona-2 1 points 1y ago
I wonder how old yours are. Either one of the shifts or my sm had a moment because one day I came in and like 2/3rd of our cards were gone. Single copy of each, only the newest version is left.
ihateyousoymatcha 1 points 1y ago
Yeah they started converting everything to the equivalent in full pumps but it's so many different things to remember now

Thanks for that! Starbucks really loves pulling people in with sugar overload
