update post: I was fired from starbucks for following company policy and not coming to work sick “in NY the health and safety laws state that newly hired partners do not have protected sick pay therefore they are not allowed to be absent from work for any reason” (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Elegant-Resist-9988
I get sick, i call out because im sick and contagious, i get penalized for it because I’m actually not permitted to be absent from my shifts during the first 30 days of my hire for any REASON”

I ask my ASM; I don’t understand? Then that means there is no scenario where i would win here at all, i will get fired for following company policy, and I will get fired if i dont follow company policy

Other reason my supervisor and asm kept highlighting;

Being 5 minutes late to work (even when i texted her and explained that i might be late due to this) because the subway was held up by the NYPD for 15 minutes, because it was shot up 3 days ago.

covering shifts for other partners, staying past scheduled time multiple times, working hard means nothing at all then, because i am “tardy” as she loves to call me, due to not expecting the subway to be held hostage by the NYPD for 15 minutes on my way to work.

this is insanity i’m so sorry that you’ve gone through this. at my store i feel like every other new person is late, or calls off at least a few times within their first 30 days.

Same. Had a few partners be late during their “probation period” and nothing happens to them til like months later.

U posted about this before. No ur asm is playing with u. There’s no 30 day trail period. Also u need to get like three written warnings to be fired. What she can do is just say ure a no call no show. Talk to resources.

Why did your asm and supervisor get on you for the being late because of the subway? I saw the article on it and there were nothing that you, or anyone else running late to work could have done during that period. Sure Uber, Lyft, cabs are a thing but I heard they raised the prices up during that incident but so sorry to hear that OP

That’s absolute bullshit because there was one barista at my store(they recently were FINALLY fired) that was consistently late through out her first month. It’s really the on the discretion of the manager.
