How many people do y’all ask to cover your shift before you give up? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by dreyisnotcool
I’ve literally asked eight (8!) separate people and I’m still sending out texts trying to find anyone to cover my shift and I’m at a point where I almost want to just say forget it and call out. So how many people do y’all normally ask? Am I a bad person for doing so? Calling out makes me feel so guilty but I literally haven’t been able to find anyone

I don’t try. I post it on the market place thing and if no one picks it up, and it’s necessary, I call out.

(I have only called out once due to a very old and sick grandparent)

Out of curiosity, and I'm sure others will ask, what's the nature of needing to find coverage? Is it something people will have empathy toward and want to cover you on?
Was it a denied time off request?

I can't speak from personal experience bc people jump all over available shifts in my store/area.
I have requested time off in the summer and if denied I will definitely call out. (Sorry peeps)

I’ve been sick with quite a high fever all day and have been throwing up on and off all day. When I tried to call my manager she essentially said to try to get it covered. I always cover for literally anyone who needs it morning and night and I’m known for covering at other stores too.

It is NOT your responsibility to get that covered. Call your store back and say "I'm sorry, I tried to find coverage as a curtsey to you and my team, but I'm too ill to work tomorrow".

Then do not, absolutely do not let them guilt you into coming in anyway. Your manager (and shift supervisors) are paid to deal with it.

If you’re sick you’re not required to find your own coverage

Sorry man.
If you can, get to a doctor, even telehealth, for an excuse.

Also, per the new check in procedure, and general health code, Vomiting illnesses are not allowed in a food environment.

Hope you feel better soon.
