You can’t be a shift until you’re 18. Also you’re unlikely to promoted in high school, because any good manager would rather have you focus on school then starbucks

Most states you can’t be a key holder until you’re 18 unfortunately

Montana is the only state that legally can have key holders younger then 18. Otherwise you just have to wait. They can’t promote you no matter how much they want to.

Also it’s unfortunate, but you being in school limits your availability so it wouldn’t be the smartest move management-wise to have a shift that can’t pick up openings or come in without notice. It’s part safety for you and part safety for the company. Don’t let that discourage you though! You have a lot of time ahead of you and the recognition is important regardless. I’m sure your entire crew sees you and appreciates you for all you do and you can still make a positive impact without the title of shift

If promoting is something you're excited for, ask what you can improve on or learn to do, so you're more confident when it happens. Look at what store standards or recipes everyone can be better at, and share what you're learning with others.
Don't focus on your age so much. Focus more on what's required of a shift, and it seems a bit more reasonable they won't promote high school students.
In my region Shifts work at minimum 28 hours. Yes, we usually work closer to 36-38, but those are *long* shifts with lunches, and we're responsible for monitoring and adapting to the wellbeing of every barista on the floor, and keeping the store running smoothly.
Our opening Shifts are 4:30-12:30
Our closing Shifts are 12:15-8:45
And *if* we have a mid Key holder, it's usually 7-3:30
As a high schooler, those aren't hours you can work consistently while keeping up with school. Prioritize your education!
