I'm a new Air Force veteran and I have two children. My husband works and I'm in school, but I'd like a little bit of extra money. I am concerned because we are in an area with no family or childcare; so, I'd like to only work when my husband is home.
How flexible are the schedules?
Am I able to only work specific times?
What is your job satisfaction?
How is the pay?
Is it hard?

Don’t do it. 0/10 do not recommend.

For the first couple of questions it really depends. A SM won’t hire you if your availability doesn’t fit with what the store needs. You are absolutely able to say that you can only work certain hours/days, though. As for the pay it depends on the market you’re in.
For the last question: I’ve worked at several Starbucks and they all feel totally different. I recommend that you go in to any Starbucks you’d like to apply at when it’s really busy and again when it’s slow. When it’s busy pay attention to the feel of the store. Does the store seem understaffed? Are baristas supporting each other? When the Starbucks is slow try to ask one of the baristas if they recommend applying there. If you’re working at a store with a solid team and supportive manager it can be a great job. If the baristas are all burnt out and the SM doesn’t care about anything besides drive times it can make the job absolutely awful.

Are you located near a base? Generally the closest store off base will be a military family store. Go talk to that SM. It will be super dependent on how many people have that current availability if they will be able to work with your schedule or not.

Yes. We're still in our military town and there's a Starbucks on base and one off base.

The one on base will be a license location and might not follow all of what starbucks does. Since a lot of benefits are relevant (college, health care) it might be worth applying there. That store does have to follow policy of whatever bigger location it’s located in/attached to (the commissary?).
The one off base would be your best bet. Those starbucks intentionally hire military spouses and veterans.

It's freestanding, not attached to anything on base. Does that mean anything?
Okay, so good to know! Thank you!

I still think they are license. As far as I know we don’t have corporate locations on base.
They will still sell starbucks product, but their wages, benefits, and training will vary. Some will have slightly higher wages due to the lack of benefits. If you don’t need the benefits it may be worth looking at. From what I heard they don’t train as well and there is potentially an option for you to be alone working which isn’t an option at a corporate location.

Flexibility depends on the store’s need. I was promised 20 hours a week. I got 21 hours my first week and 7 the next 3. I lasted 3 days there. It was hard, minimal training and lots of stress for $12/hr. I was doing it for the fertility benefits they offer. It wasn’t worth it to me. I already work full time in healthcare and have tricare insurance through my spouse.
