Trans healthcare and working hours (pre employment q)(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by macintyrecollection
I’m interviewing at my nearest location tomorrow and have been reading here out of curiosity; I see a lot of posts about extremely light scheduling. Has anyone here who’s tried to take advantage of the transgender healthcare benefits not been able to do so for not being able to reach the required minimum weekly hours for it? Is there anything I can do to avoid that? The healthcare coverage is my main motivation for signing on with Starbucks.

Always work at least 20 hours per week. Pick up shifts when you can. Our hours are light and I told my managers “Hey, I rely on our health insurance for my medication” and now I’m regularly scheduled 20.50 hours a week.
I will say the healthcare coverage for trans healthcare is great and absolutely fight for those hours. Hopefully your store has a groupchat, and people will post when they need shifts covered.

I'm a trans woman and for me things went pretty smoothly. I explained why I needed the hours and they gave me 30 hours a week after training.

I work 39 hours a week, normal barista and Starbucks has refused to cover any of the trans healthcare benefits they advertise. Constantly giving me a different reason they wont cover it, from my prescription being “too old” and i need to see my doctor for new insurance info to saying my therapist letter for gender dysphoria isnt “the right one” to refusing covering voice training because they want me to use a place 3 hours away across the state thats only in person. I desperately hope they arent doing this to other people but just watch out about any pushback they give you since your store district or regional managers cannot help you at all since its above them.

Oh damn I’m really sorry to hear that, that’s messed up. Thank you for the heads up.
