So I love going in to get drinks on my days off.. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Nearby-Philosophy-25
I am a college student and I stop in almost every day (once or twice a day) to get coffee and refreshers with my partner. I only work weekends but I love my coworkers and I take every chance I can get to see them. Some people will give me a free drink and others will only give me the 30%. It’s just nice to get a discount at all so I usually choose to go there when I want a drink. Today, a coworker was joking with me and she said “wow, you’re in here every day! You must not have a life!” I felt embarrassed and I agreed, but now I’m feeling guilty. Should I be going somewhere else for coffee? Does it bother you to see someone coming in so often? Maybe I’m overthinking but I genuinely don’t want my coworkers to dislike me.

keep going in. sometimes i switch up locations but i have a coworker who comes in whenever he’s not working to get a drink and says he just likes the vibe and seeing everyone and breifley chatting. they’re just probably trying to be funny

Go in as many times as you want! Not your fault you live close. I will say to be careful about getting free drinks when you’re not working. Had a great ssv get fired over that and it’s being monitored closer now. Not worth losing a job. And yes, that was the main reason for the firing.

damn they're cracking down on that for u guys? i used to work at a drive-thru store and then went to work at a LS. Got in hella trouble for the freebies at the LS, but i didnt know they were coming for yall too. ://

if customers can come in to get a drink every day why can't we?
Responsible_Snow7109 7 points 1y ago
Yesss. This needs more upvotes lol if those types or coworkers that comment on their coworkers that come in on their days off, then its like why? Cuz theres regulars (customers) that come in everyday or almost everyday so why is that ok but why is it looked at in a certain way wen employees come in on their days off.

I don't go into my location on my off time because it is so out of the way, but there is a location just a thirty second walk from my home, so I'm in there all the time. I trained there, so I know most of the baristas. I honestly really wish I worked at that store -- it would be so convenient.

i wasn’t trained at the store by me, but it’s a 12 minute drive instead of 30. i’d transfer there if the baristas were friendlier 😂
aspiringgrandpa 1 points 1y ago
i do it for the same reason but i also avoid getting drinks at my store bc i’m socially awkward 😭

One of my coworkers comes in on her days off and just sits around chatting with us and the regulars. For some of us work is our escape from stressful home lives. Plus the coffee really is addictive

I agree with the person who says that they don’t want to give Starbucks any money especially when they don’t pay us adequately in my opinion. I don’t recommend anybody going into their job on their day off, No matter how much they like it. It’s a work and home life balance that I recommend people should try to maintain. if you’re at work five days a week for 5 to 8 hours each day, maybe you should find another third place that isn’t work related so that you could efficiently refuel your spirit and your well-being. Countless research supports what i saying and i recommend maybe joining clubs or extracurriculars to find some new non work friends who you might enjoy seeing more outside of work.

I don’t work there anymore, but I used to LOVE when my coworkers came in while I was working. We would talk about all the awful customers and stupid corporate decisions of the day. It was a nice break for me in-between the regular bs to shit talk to “customers”

I want to give Starbucks as little money as possible since that's how I feel they treat me. I don't go in on my day off unless I'm being paid to.
kittytwears 3 points 1y ago
keep going in! maybe they don’t personally like the job and would rather be away from a place they personally don’t like
ryzzostar 3 points 1y ago
Now that o don't work at Starbucks anymore I find myself going to see my friends that still work there and also getting a coffee. I really miss them but not the stress of working there.

Wow that’s rude. You don’t have a life bc you like to get coffee in the morning? Some ppl are just weird.
ValueAffectionate287 2 points 1y ago
Don’t stop going in because of that. I had a DM (? ik she was corporate, not sure her exact title) come up to me while I was in on my day off as I was waiting for my food and say “you must really like it here to be in here even on your day off” and I (unfortunately for her) was in a bad mood and turned and said “well I enjoy eating in an environment where I know I can eat and not die or have to use my epipens” she shut up real quick after that. Has not talked to me since.

**I wouldn’t have usually responded like that but they had just fired our SM in very obvious union busting right after we unionized

My store has a great community so we constantly have partners who hang in our cafe on their off days and do homework/ grab drinks!!
It was probably a off handed comment by someone who isn’t happy to be there everyday! Don’t feel embarrassed Bc it’s totally normal!!
csaan18 2 points 1y ago
people will always think something of something and she probably meant in a joking manner. don't be embarrassed to use some of the few perks this job gives us.
megs1288 2 points 1y ago
I like when my coworkers come in on their off days. It makes work a little more fun.
luvloping 2 points 1y ago
If it's the most convenient one to where you are absolutely keep going in. No one cares, unless you call out that day and go in. I hope your coworkers give you a free drink.
I go to mine all the time it's the closest to the places I go so why not.
ashley0927 2 points 1y ago
I know a lot of my coworkers complain when someone comes in on there day off. Who cares what other people think. If it’s close to your house then go to that one, gas is expensive anyway to travel to other locations.
Responsible_Snow7109 2 points 1y ago
I hate that that happened to u cuz i used to work at other retail stores before Starbucks and wen some of the employees would come in to get things on their days off, other coworkers that were working that day would always say to them "what are u doing here" in a joking matter kinda but still, its like let people do watever the hell they want. People are aloud to get things from their place of work on their off days. I never understood why thats so weird to some people

Edit: fixed typo

I've had similar comments in the past so now I go to a different store on my day off. I'll only go to my store when I know certain people are there.
Have_Donut 1 points 1y ago
They were probably just awkwardly trying to joke.
I really enjoy going in even on my days off. It’s always fun to see my friends, and I live a good 15 miles from my store!
wok3less 1 points 1y ago
i work a block away from mine and im there every day off tbh. often with coworkers to hang out
chicken-tiddies 1 points 1y ago
If I lived closer to the store I worked at I'd stop and visit my store on my days off. I'm sure they were teasing.
