Does this job make anyone else feel depressed? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sh3nan1gans_
Okay, I’ve been working here at Starbs for about 7 months now. I used to love it at first but it’s only recently in the last 2 months that I feel depressed there, and I mourn going to work every day. I love my partners. I love /some/ customers. But jeez this job is soul sucking, and caffeine surely doesn’t help. Getting harassed over coffee nearly every day doesn’t help either. I don’t wanna leave either, cuz The moneys good and I just got insurance. Any advice on how to make this better? How do you partners that have worked here for years and years manage :(

Depressed and Anxiety filled for me.

This is my first job, and boy has it been exhausting. Each day I come home practically limp from basically being over worked. Not only that, but me having bad Social Skills (autism) and ADHD Attentive Type, I find myself getting fussed at by my co-workers more often than not. I get it, I’m supposed to be at 100% all the time, but it’s draining.

I only feel depressed when I’m stuck on DTO/DTR my whole shift, which has been all week so far. I like making drinks but since I’m new, DTO/DTR is where they put me. There is one shift lead who is really good about moving everyone around and I told him he’s my favorite lead to work with, but it’s rare that I’m scheduled with him. I get to bar when I work with him and he knows it’s my favorite spot. Otherwise the other shifts just put you wherever and keep you there for the sake of business needs. Good leads make such a difference, they make you feel like a person and not a machine.

I get that. I’ve worked jobs like that before. Most of my shifts are good with rotating people out though out the day so no one gets burnt out. I would try to speak with the shift and ask for some more bar time!! That’s what I did when I first started. If they decline I would simply talk to your manager about how you feel :)

I actually feel the opposite for the most part. I can't imagine working any other job. It's a perfect fir for me personally despite some gripes

Keep in mind I have chronic depression and a mood disorder.

If you didn’t go into this job depressed or with anxiety then you’re sure gonna leave with it

I understand how you feel, I was already depressed and this job doesn't help much, but I don't have another option.

I would leave but this is the first job I’ve found actually that makes it easier to get insurance. I was a Dunkin’ Donuts shift for a good while before this and they made it nearly impossible to get insurance

I worked for Dunkin my first job, and I was basically a shift but without the title and benefits. I closed every night by myself, I counted cash down and I was alone for almost every single shift. Sbux is better but not by much. I can't get the insurance yet, I have to wait for the application time to come around again.

When customers get angry don’t take it personal. Just know that they maybe going though something and they choose to take it out on you or others.
