Can I temporarily transfer stores to another state? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by tofbun
Hey there! I’m moving from TX to CA for a few months (somewhere between 1-3 months for personal reasons), and I was wondering if I’d be able to transfer to a location there and then transfer to a TX location whenever I move back. I’m also wondering if I’d be paid my TX wage (12/hr) or if I would be getting the CA minimum wage of 15/hr. Any help would mean so much to me, thanks!

Generally the company doesn’t like people to transfer that frequently, but it’s possible if the SMs and DMs are on board with it. I’ve known someone who switched between districts twice a year when they moved to & from school. It takes time to work everything out in advance, so talk to your manager as soon as possible. It probably wouldn’t hurt to contact stores near where you’ll be in CA as well.

You would earn a wage comparable to whatever your coworkers in CA were getting; it would be illegal for the company to pay you less than 15/hr. Your pay would go back down when you moved back to TX.

It’d be about a month from now. Is that too soon? I’ve been calling around to multiple stores to ask but haven’t had much luck

I don't have much experience with the process myself! But considering stores make their schedules 3 weeks in advance, I don't think a month is too soon at all.

My store is in an area that sees increases business during the summer (beach town.) We have 2 partners who transfer in for the summer when they are gone from college and then return to their other store when they go back to school. It works for both stores since their home store slows down in summer, but we get slow in winter. It really depends on the SM & DM and business.
