I know we've all already clarified, but for anyone else in the uncomfortable situation of any coworker, but especially a manager, challenging you when you *know* you're right and you *know* they're going to be funky about it: act genuinely surprised, say "huh, that's weird, maybe we should check?" or "oh, I must be misremembering, let me check the recipe card to make sure I have it right for next time" and pull out the iPad right then and there.

My favorite idiot SM moment:I had an outside hire sm one command my coworker to steep the tea bag for an iced London fog in cold milk. This was before recipes on iPad and I didn't know where they moved our recipe cards too to show they were obvs doing it wrong.

The only thing I can say in defense of outside hires is they usually come with experience managing other restaurants. Starbucks chooses to not train them as barista (learning recipes and sequencing) for more than maybe a week. They don't get the opportunity to be masters the way promoted sms have to be. How confident were we all after our first 30 hours on bar+cold bar?

There was a slow morning sometime last week and I was running the coffee cadence up front and my timer had just gone off so I was changing out one of the coffees and she walked by and was like “is someone making coffee?? Oh good yeah cause all the coffees are empty for some reason” and I was just gobsmacked cause like ?? It’s dead slow and we only need 1/4 batches of blonde and dark and you’d know that if you had the smallest amount of experience working on the floor. So I made 1/2 batches just to show how much coffee I had to dump out. That shit annoyed me so bad. This is what outside hiring gives us.
