Coffee Tasting Advice and recommendations? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by batty_bitxh
I’m a new barista and I’ve been told by my sm that I need to hold a coffee tasting for my sign off.

I have only tried a few coffees so far so I’m looking for recommendations for interesting blends.

I’m also looking for some advice on how to hold my tasting, I’ve never had to do anything like this before and I’m incredibly nervous…
I didn’t know a huge amount of coffee before I started here and I never used to like simple black coffee until very recently.
I understand that you have to talk about the aromas and flavours with the coffee as well as where it’s from but how do you approach it all? Do I need to be insanely knowledgeable or would a general understanding be enough??

TLDR: I’m looking for an interesting coffee for my tasting and some advice on how to do it.

Edit; My sign off is this coming Monday (7 days from now) so now I’m nervous 😅

Anniversary blend is really yummy by itself and the pairing listed in the coffee tasting booklet is good. If you’re confused look at the 1lb bags on the side there’s a story about each coffee as well as tasting notes and descriptions of the place it’s from- if you’re looking for pointers check the processing method of each coffee and then read up on it - that’s a great thing to describe during the coffee tastings because it’s interesting to know that the subtle differences in processing lead to huge flavor disparities. Coming from a supervisor who holds these for every trainee all the way thru each of their passports- reach out if you need more help!
