what should i do about this? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by veg1216
so i’ve started working at a new location as a shift and the manager is in between two stores. he’s hardly ever here and i never get to speak to him because of this. i quite often have issues with the staffing and other things in the store like making sure we have shift meetings to get all on the same page. well i recently came into work and the manager told me that i need to conceal my emotions better because it’s negatively impacting the baristas. i told him i could work on it but it’s hard to unlearn showing your emotions when that’s how you’ve lived your whole life. fast forward another month or so and another shift corners me and literally yells at me about how i got frustrated with him because i write things in the book that didn’t get done at close, as we are supposed to do. i went home crying and called the manager and explained to him the situation. the next time i saw him, he wrote me up for the same thing as before: being frustrated and upset. he didn’t ask how he could fix it. he didn’t ask why i was upset. he got mad that i used the word frustrated in the book when that’s how all of us having been feeling due to understaffing. should i go to hr? am i in the wrong? how do i even change if i should??? idk it just feels like a super toxic environment where i can’t even express my emotions that are healthy due to what situations we’ve been put under.

EDIT: i was also scheduled to be off 4 days in a row this past week and i came back yesterday to find out the manager is going to be gone for two weeks. he didn’t even let me know he was going to be gone for that long and now i can’t speak to him about anything.
