Any way to get around the fact that Starbucks allows the verbal and mental abuse from customers towards partners, especially minor's? Our staff are terrified of the one Karen, and my SM and ASM want to fight to keep her as a customer regardless of how terrible she is

I tell everyone this. Every time a customer is abusive or aggressive in any way, document it. Make incident reports. Include the customer’s name in the reports, even if it’s just the first name. You should print up copies of their receipts every time they’re mistreating anyone. Even better if multiple partners are filing incident reports of the same customer. SMs/DMs can and will sweep things under the rug and the customers will continue in their ways. Document. Everything.

This cannot be stressed enough! A paper trail is the only way my store was able to ban a customer who threw tantrums on an almost daily basis. She had been coming in for years but once we started keeping records of everything, the DM was able to ban her after a matter of weeks. Get as many people as you can on board and go over the SM's head if necessary. Once there's a paper trail, it becomes a liability for the company and makes it hard for them to avoid taking action.

The partners in my store are terrified of speaking up. So there's no way they would file everytime. Apparently this customer has made it up to our DM, but we still allow her. I may be getting wrote up for standing up to her for my partners

Agree with everyone here. File an incident report and write down everything the customer says and does. Go above your manager to your DM after you've got few incident reports filed or contact the ethics and compliance hotline

if this Caren is that bad, and you can provide proof of the abuse ie. incident reports then you should bring that to corporate. like call them up and tell them what happened

You and every other partner at starbucks are well within your right to refuse service to any customer if you don't like the way they're speaking to you or feel unsafe engaging in a conversation with them. If you need to you can take the issue up to your regional director or partner resources.
