my store has a big problem with call offs, i’m sure a lot of us can relate. my SM sent a message (and posted a written note in the back by the schedule) stating this as the new call out policy:
• you must call off 4 hours minimum before your shift starts. if the shift starts before 8am you have to call off by 6pm the day before at the LATEST (i feel like i should note that our store closes at 8:30pm). if you don’t, you’ll get written up for not following the call off policy.
for some reason i feel like this is unreasonable?? i’ve definitely gone to bed fine, and woken up the next day feeling like death. that’s not exactly something you can plan a full day ahead?? i get wanting to get staffing issues under control but idk. this feels like too much. are sm’s even allowed to create their own call out policy? i feel like they’re not but who knows

No. They can’t just make up rules.

The only policy I know for call outs is that the partner has to call the store and speak to the shift that is running the floor and inform them that they’re calling out.

Nope i got written up for talking to my supervisor rather than my manager, which was what everyone else had been doing as long as I’ve been there.

So what happens when your manager isn’t there?
SmolLizardManth2 points1y ago
You have to call them on their cell and speak to them in the phone even if you’re vomiting

Pretty sure the official policy is two hours before your shift. If you aren't sick though it's your responsibility to get the shift covered. But I mean you can just lie but like letting you know that's the only like official excuse the covers your ass and they have to accept it know matter when you call. Especially if you use your sick time. They cannot deny you the right to use your sick time. Honestly I would call the ethics and compliance hotline cause that sounds sketch. I wouldn't trust your DM either. Go straight to corporate.

At the very least call before 8:30, but at this point are they gonna have anyone to cover whether it’s 4 hours or 1 hour?
But that’s when I wanna be petty and show up and just start puking everywhere. Like oops I got sick after the 4 hour mark so I came in. 🤮🤷

Check the partner handbook for all guidelines on corporate rules. Commenter who stated before about being sick and not needing to find coverage is right.

This!!! They refer to the partner handbook as the official rule/guidelines.

Lol “yeah I know you open at 4:30 but you know if you feel fine by 6 pm and go to bed without telling us you’re going to be sick, but wake up at 3 am throwing up, tough luck! Please come in and spread your illness :)”

Your sm needs to work this out with the people constantly calling out I worked at a store and if you kept calling off you would go into a meeting to work out a solution for the individual this isn’t going to solve anything

This is a good rule of thumb when applicable but your manager can’t just enforce made up rules like that. It’s obviously not always realistic.
