At the sbux I work at, we’re allowed 7 food items a week. We’re only allowed to use those mark outs on days we worked during our shift, right before or right after. We aren’t allowed to go to another sbux and use those mark outs, only unless you worked at that one that day. Anyways today is my day off and I went to a sbux that I don’t work at and gave her my partner numbers for the discount but the girl on register gave me my food mark out and gave me the drink for free. I would never do this to another partner knowing that it could get them in trouble and it’s really frustrating because this happens almost every time I go a sbux that I don’t work at. I’ve let my store manager know about it before but it keeps happening, can I get fired for this even though it’s kinda out of my control? I’m still somewhat new so I don’t know how serious it is but yeah

I doubt they even know

The stores that I go to have the same dm and when I got hired I went to something called “the green bean experience” and they made sure to tell us how serious it is to use our mark outs correctly

I promise it’s not that deep fam, they likely don’t even know and wouldn’t check unless you were getting more markouts than you were entitled to in an egregious manner, like 5+ more than you should, and even then if it was regular, at least happened a for a few weeks.
I say this because of the vast number of employees under the Starbucks umbrella, they JUST rolled out the partner markout visibility function and while that adds another failsafe, as in “you had the option to check,” particularly in your situation where it’s out of your control you wouldn’t face any consequences.

The only way anyone knows is if both SMs specifically check your numbers at their individual stores and talk to eachother. That's not shared info. Plus I doubt anyone cares

i do know if your numbers get audited, you guys would both get in some trouble. the good news is that you’re telling your manager about it. ive seen somebody get fired for marking out partners drinks that weren’t working because it was on their till but i don’t think you would exactly get into big trouble since you aren’t the one ringing it in. it’s a big no-no and most of starbucks workers who started post-pandemic don’t understand that you NEVER got free items when you aren’t working before all of this. id just keep your manager informed that it’s happening and i *doubt* it will come back onto you

I would gently remind whoever it is on R1 that you would like to use your partner numbers for your discount. There have been numerous of people fired at my store for incorrect use of their partner numbers. Just be cautious, one or two mark outs over won’t raise the alarms but they do take it seriously after you’ve been flagged in the system.

They pushed the button, not you. You won't get in trouble for it
catarinavanilla2 points1y ago
Just make sure you specify to the partner on reg that you want to use your partner numbers for the discount (keyword discount bc there’s literally a button). If they end up doing the mark out entirely either ask them to void the transaction and let you pay or let your manager know it was out of your control; unless it’s a pattern of abuse they don’t say anything

U won’t be but they can if they get audit. And honestly… no one really does unless they want someone fired for real.

Trust me nobody cares. When I worked at Starbucks (quit like a month ago) I was checking out like 15 food items a week. The only person who brought it up to me was manager and we just laughed about it and moved on.

There is a way for them to know and see when you do this but how serious of a consequence depends on your SM. I went over on food one week and she just showed me and told me to start writing down in my notes when I get food. She did tell me I’m responsible for going back and making them do a refund if they mark out my drink when they aren’t supposed to. It’s annoying but now I either make sure to mention only my discount should be used or make them do a refund

no one cares (saying this as a shift), if a partner is willing to mark you up for free while you are not on the clock, just be appreciative and maybe tip them graciously

We were told you could 7 food items a week at your store and it didn't matter if you were working or not. Hell half the time I ring in mutiple days food on one day. Cause I grabbed a pastry as I was headed on my 10 and there was a huge line and then never got a chance to ring it up until the next shift.
Remarkable_Hold_23421 points1y ago
Yeahhhh they changed it not too long ago, cause that’s how it was when I first started in august and I think maybe after Christmas it was changed to just when you were working or right before/after. I think it’s super annoying that they changed it, but whatever ig😂

Oh, I was on LOA and no one told me any different. Yikes.
Remarkable_Hold_23421 points1y ago
Rip. I went on LOA like immediately afterwards so I almost forgot about it.
