grande rant… p sure my sm is ignoring my time off request (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by orangeygirly
I just transferred stores this month. I have a vacation in early June for just like 4-5 days, I’m going to visit a national park with a bunch of friends and we’ve been planning this trip for MONTHS now. I submitted the request two weeks ago, told her about it in person and she pretty much brushed it off, and left a sticky note on her desk (she loves those) asking her to respond to it. LIKE JUST DENY IT AT THIS POINT. I literally cancelled it on the app then resubmitted it because I’m so annoyed, I’m still going to the trip whether she confirms it or not cuz I have enough sick hours and I’d just try to get the shifts covered. The fact that she is completely ignoring me about it is driving me CRAZY.

There are some managers who don’t like to approve a time off request until they’re building the schedule for that week. If that’s the case here you wouldn’t see the approval until you’re 3 weeks out from the time off.

As managers we’re supposed to have very specific, intentional plans around building a schedule and some managers only feel comfortable approving something once they’ve gathered all other information for that week while building it.

Other store managers will just approve everything right away but then they’re left with like 30 unfilled shifts for the week and not enough partners to cover.

It can be tough for some to find a middle ground there with the way partner hours is set up.

Maybe ask your manager about it again in person and ask her to tell you why she hasn’t approved or denied your request.

Yeah that makes sense, my old SM would approve them right away. I just wish she would tell me that if that’s what she prefers lol. but I’m also not showing up that week regardless if it’s approved or not. I’ll just turn my socials on private and call in sick, so she might as well approve it now yaknow

like that only makes sense to me if it’s negotiable, and this trip is not

I mean, the reality is that it is a *request.*
She can deny it and schedule you.
Just like you can then call in sick or give up those shifts on the shift marketplace and let other partners pick them up.
But if you know you’re not going to be working either way, why stress about it now?

No you’re right I’m just a big stresser in general lol

Im the same way! Current SM won't approve times off that have no reason written in the comments until the schedule is written because they said they like to see who truly needs the time off since at times there's more than 3 or even 4 requests for the same time. I recently submitted about 10 days off in the next 2 months for doctor appointments and I text them.and got them approved that same day. For vacation I always just submit that I'll be out of the state or country so they know I have tickets already purchased.

I requested days off & got denied it, then reentered it with the time slots for the days… they’re pending so we’ll see…

turns out she’s doing the same thing to another partner who requested time off the week after me. we’re pretty sure she’s testing us / trying to make us feel bad for having to find coverage for us… but she’ll approve them nonetheless. too bad my life doesn’t revolve around being a starbucks barista and i don’t feel the tiniest bit bad about it lmao

I complained that I can’t work on certain days and now I’m taken off the schedule. I also put in a vacation request. Will see how that goes.
