Just an embarassed green bean (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by meowmeowwz
A customer made me remake his drink which was a nitro cold brew which said add cream and i put heavy cream instead of sweet cream he seemed so upset but I always get confused on what to add when they say just say cream 😭
debreee 78 points 1y ago
Usually if they ask for cream they just want half & half.
meowmeowwz [OP] 11 points 1y ago
That confuses me because sometimes it’s breve and sometimes just cream so do I always put half and half ?
debreee 47 points 1y ago
Half and half is free. Breve is technically half and half but if they order it breve they want the dairy replaced completely with half and half. So like a caramel macchiato ordered breve would have half and half instead of 2% and they have to pay for the substitution. But a coffee with cream is just a coffee with half and half added and they don’t have to pay any extra. I hope that made sense.

They’re the same. So the right side of the milks is free they can get under an inch of cream. If it’s over an inch of cream, it will be on the left side, giving them an up charge.

4 oz?
monicamac52 12 points 1y ago
Cream means half and half
uwumoment 7 points 1y ago
don’t blame yourself, the pos person probably rang it up incorrectly because what the customer said was unclear or they didn’t know what they wanted, cream is half and half, heavy cream is heavy cream, sweet cream is sweet cream. breve is replacing the dairy that’s already in a drink with half and half (or like others have said, more than an inch of cream)

Don’t be embarrassed, they usually throw a fit when their nitro doesn’t have ice 🙃 I always like to see their face of horror

You did the right thing. The customer ordered incorrectly. Too many people assume you know what they mean. If you’re taking the order the best thing to do is clarify if it’s the half and half they wanted or the sweet cream, especially when it comes to cold brews and nitros. I have to ask all the time when someone orders cold foam, do they want regular cold foam or vanilla sweet cream cold foam. 98% of the time it’s vanilla but I don’t want to assume.
thatswackrhi 3 points 1y ago
This is also a good point about the foam! When I first started the company and foam had launched, I would always assume people would order what they wanted. So many times when people asked for cold foam, i would never ask if they meant sweet cream cold foam. I would get a lot of complaints saying they didnt order that, esp before the cold foam had been modified to be sweeter.

Lol, there is still debate at my store if reg cold foam gets vanilla or not(I love the iPads for this reason).
Jaded_Fun_7133 4 points 1y ago
Breve= cream= half and half they’re all the same, if they say sweet cream then do what you use for the the vanilla sweet cream cold foam
nicolelynnejones 4 points 1y ago
We have a lot of customers that want the vanilla sweet cream nitro cold brew but just call it “the cream cold brew” which isn’t our fault at all but it’s always easiest to ask them to be more specific tbh
drinkliquidclocks 3 points 1y ago
Cream = breve unless they specify HEAVY cream. Otherwise just ask. But just “cream” never means hwc
BrooklynIntrovert23 3 points 1y ago
Yea if it says add cream it means half and half

Cream =half and half
Breve Still = half and half (this is used for lattes or drinks that are made up of mostly milk)

If they want heavy cream or sweet cream it will say heavy cream or sweet cream
thatswackrhi 2 points 1y ago
On the register in the milks section, the left side will all charge the person. The reason is because this way, they want the entire drink to be made of that milk. So if they want their entire drink made Breve, it just means Half & Half in a large amount.

If youre looking at the register and see all the right side option milks, it just means a small amount. Between less than 2 oz to 4 oz. This is why you can click on “light” ____ (whatever milk) or “extra” ____ (whatever milk.) This is also why they wont be additionally charged.

Left side = completely made with (costs extra)

ex: lattes, frappuccino’s, shaken espresso’s, pink/dragon/star drinks, ect.

Right side = splash of / smaller amount (doesnt cost extra)

ex: pike with cream, nitro with heavy cream, americano with sweet cream, ect.

Cream = Half and Half, but all others will be referred to as their name. i.e. Sweet Cream, Heavy cream. But if youre ever confused, always ask bc it cant hurt.

You to customer: “When you say cream do you mean Half & half, heavy cream, or sweet cream?”

Also, you didnt ring him up wrong. He ordered his drink wrong. All nitro’s with Sweet cream are ordered as “Vanilla Sweet Cream Nitro Cold Brews.” Most people shorten it to “Sweet Cream Nitro” or “Nitro with Sweet cream.”

Hope this helps! Dont be embarrassed, youre okay :)

The best thing I’ve done is spilling the entire mop bucket after mopping the lobby🙃

Not gonna lie, I did that one week and was like wait…. Brain fart 🤪

If it says 1/2 1/4 (Milk, creme,Heavy) they just want a portion of the drink that.

If it just says WHOLE MILK.
Or SOY or BREVE(Fancy half and half) they want the drink made totally with that and paid to have it that way
