I can’t wait to be like “that will be an up charge, is that ok?”
Mr_SCPF91 points1y ago
I won’t even tell them :)
rnaggie5383 points1y ago
I will tell them in hopes they decide to just not do it or just get a frap

iamnotabarbie60 points1y ago
Hope steamed milk for things like pike like a splash is charged next
Lucent-Singularity51 points1y ago
I just ring that in as a misto tbh 😅 I explain to the customer what it is and 95% of the time they'll be like "oh i didn't even know I could order that!" thus making it easier for next time haha
-Zispy19 points1y ago
But then it would be half milk, not an inch of steamed cream

BuT thEy dOnT ChaRgE mE ExTra aT yada yada lOcAtIoN.
iamnotabarbie16 points1y ago
But if they mobile order it will be half of each
Water-is-h2o4 points1y ago
I’ve never had them accept that
ittybittybakerkitty10 points1y ago
I have a cafe regular who sits at a table for hours on his laptop; gets a small pike with steamed milk but he wants literally half the cup to be milk. Threw an absolute fit when I charged him for a misto.
Altruistic_Deer_775656 points1y ago
It only took years & is even being yelled at by our DM for not blending items when customers called & complained. Imagine the labor hours that will now be added when charging to blend drinks.
Slow_Cow384830 points1y ago
Glad for this but honestly, they should charge more. Next I want a steamed milk upcharge for oatmeal, teas, anything that's technically not a misto. Our labor isn't/shouldn't be given out for free.
mesnackl210 points1y ago
How is your labor given away for free if you are paid by the hour for your labor lol
Electrical_Metal_10626 points1y ago
I think they are referring to the labor metric that tells the SM how many partners they can schedule. We still get paid they same per hour but our workload is drastically effected when we have less people.
mesnackl22 points1y ago
That makes total sense!!
Anngggiiiee28 points1y ago
I can hear the bitching already

I’m happy about this up-charge and will be telling people per their order that there is now an up charge. (My Duty as a Friendly Barista, making new moments Teachable and Connecting with customers.) Will be happy when there are up-charges for additionally steamed milk drinks such as Pike’s and Americano’s. I completely love to make people the drinks that they want, as they want them. However, when there are so many additional steps that they completely stray from the original drink I’d like to get appropriately compensated for my labor. (If you have to change a drink so completely, just admit you don’t like the drink.) Not getting enough labor/wages is exactly why our turnover rate is high.

I can already hear my local Karen that always complains that her drink is too expensive yelling at me
Enough-Ad-3687 points1y ago
Now they just need to charge for “steamed”
theepi_pillodu7 points1y ago
So, frappes would cost more or something? Or if I ask for a refresher to be blended I'll get charged?
PauseAccording2034 points1y ago
Only drinks that don’t get blended per standard! Frappuccino’s will not have the upcharge :)
theepi_pillodu-1 points1y ago
Cool
Ok_Nectarine95386 points1y ago
Shouldn’t there then be a charge for light or no ice if we are giving customers so much extra product for free?
Slow_Cow38486 points1y ago
Yeah exactly. And then people complain things take a long time and that we are understaffed. And we don't get hours. It's all based on labor. So yes. It matters.

Great tomorrow I work ugggg

This should add to labor hours with their stupid metrics formula, which should def helps those of you currently experiencing hour shortages. 🤞🤞
CoffeeChesirecat24 points1y ago
It's more labor on our end, so hell yeah, I'm happy. This is long overdue.
iamnotabarbie14 points1y ago
It’s not about asking less or making the company more money. Based on how much a drink costs is how much labor we get. We can have more ppl on the floor and more hours to give to ppl who need it.
happybowlita835 points1y ago
I mean they did raise their national wage to $15... in some states the minimum wage is $7-$10 meaning a lot of these baristas make a good check if they get the hours they're supposed to based off of labor.
theepi_pillodu0 points1y ago
Okay, please explain.
Increasing 50 cents on one let's call it "add-on" which (I'm not sure how people ask for it per day - depending on the store) has anything to do with the number of hours each employee can get?
iamnotabarbie5 points1y ago
If a store makes let’s say $1000 between 1pm-2pm that accounts for a certain amount of labor since the more add ons and more time a drink takes to make the more expensive. A frap takes longer then a latte and a pile even less therefore the frap brings in more money. Since it’s more work and time consuming we get more ppl. I mean let’s say there’s a store that only sells pike they really only need two people versus a store that sells only frap they will need more because there is more things required. Summary- the more money we get the more we can spend on labor bc the drinks with more add ons take more time and are more expensive
saratcr-12 points1y ago
this is great for baristas but i feel like drinks are already so expensive!!
happybowlita8322 points1y ago
As my SM would say, sbux is a luxury not a necessity... I happily pay a good price for good food at a good restaurant if people really like sbux they'll keep paying for it regardless.
