Coffee Tasting Advice: (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by batty_bitxh
I $1 on here about my upcoming coffee tasting (Monday) so here I am again.

Ive decided to use the blonde espresso roast (not the most interesting one, I know) and I’ve been recommended two things to pair with it:
- Plant Based Carrot Cake
Or
- a Cinnamon Swirl

Anyone know which one would work best? I’m very new to coffee pairings and I’ve never held a tasting before, I’m having to hold one for my training sign off.

Also, does anyone have any interesting information about the coffee? I’m currently doing my own research but I also thought I would turn to here incase anyone had ever done the same?

TLDR: should I pair carrot cake or cinnamon swirl with the blonde espresso roast? And what interesting things are there about this coffee?

Thanks ✨

Blonde Espresso actually pairs with lemon, orange, and caramel. My suggestion would be to pair it with the lemon loaf to highlight the citrus notes which is what makes Blonde Espresso unique and different from our Signature Espresso. Even though both are blends of Latin American, African, and Asian Pacific beans it's the proportions and processing that differs and produces a different flavor in the cup. The lighter roasting allows the citrus notes to develop instead of 'burning' away.

I don't know if you have time but you might want to do a side by side tasting of both blonde and signature to make it more interesting.

I miss doing tastings, I always find them challenging. My 'specialty' is pairings, as I love to cook/bake, so I tend to go off book. 😉

Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Ok, so what I was taught is that you always pair a food with a coffee that will enhance the notes of the flavor profiles of both. For example if you are using Veranda as your blonde roast you will notice it mentions a mellow flavor with hints of cocoa so the food you want needs to enhance the cocoa flavor. So I would go with a chocolate croissant, brownie, or the cinnamon coffee cake. All of these should bring out the notes of chocolate in the coffee. The carrot cake though delicious would be to strong of a flavor profile for this mellow coffee and would overtake it's flavors. It would be a better pairing with the holiday roast who boast of having a profile of spices that would be able to hold up to the spices in the carrot cake. Hope that helps. Good luck you got this.
