not gonna lie. I fucking hate this thing (i.redd.it)

We had like 10 of them at my store, and lemme tell you, walking in sub-4am amd seeing a lake of cold brew all over the floor was just...so very special.
One of my SSVs never rinsed them before putting them in the dishwasher, so I'd have to run two empty loads or all the dishes came out covered in grounds.

I actually prefer these over the teddies lol
Additional_Shoe 27 points 1y ago
Agree, I fucking hated the toddies
EliMinivan [OP] 8 points 1y ago
This just takes away counter space while adding virtually no added convenience. In addition it gives me twice as many things to wash as the Toddy does, my store doesn't have a dish washing machine so I have to do it in the sinks that they don't fit in.
Fantastic1357 10 points 1y ago
I’m surprised it’s sitting out on your counter since ours is in the BOH
7beforeminutes5 5 points 1y ago
Ours are in boh too but it must be nice not carting 14 liters of water back for each of them! If we are going to prep in the boh it feels like we should have a sink with drinking water back there!
59625962 1 points 1y ago
We keep ours in our back room
EliMinivan [OP] 1 points 1y ago
I'm in a Safeway, don't have much of a back room
Mea-fae_Owl73 7 points 1y ago
Me too! We have them next to a water dispenser. The only time we have a problem is when someone doesn’t put the correct amount of water in them.
Nalin90 40 points 1y ago
These are way better. Very rarely do they overflow for us and only if someone didn't prepare it properly and got grounds putside the filter. Otherwise these save me a lot of time. I don't have to find time to pull toddies. They do it themselves.
ilholtstilin 16 points 1y ago
I agree—in particular being able to make cold brew to be pulled when no one is in the store is a huge improvement.
sheep_heavenly 13 points 1y ago
Anecdotally, I clean the nitro filter at my store. Never saw flies in it until we got the new brewing system. 🤷🏻
ilholtstilin 9 points 1y ago
That is a hell of a rebuttal
kobo15 8 points 1y ago
… why would the new brewing system cause flies in the nitro filter?
sheep_heavenly 9 points 1y ago
It's full of holes and gaps. The most glaring is the lidless cubes being stored at room temperature. Flies love coffee. So you can have coffee pulled when no one is in the store, but that's the trade-off. Pretty gross imo.
Aurora_Boreallis 32 points 1y ago
Hard to cleans and often the batch doesn’t pour evenly into the cubes. Hate hate double hate.
Detantevandaisy 3 points 1y ago
Loooathe entirely
Have_Donut 28 points 1y ago
They are the classic solution in search of a problem. If they were worried about space, a timer and a square toddy would have worked just as well
cynicosm 9 points 1y ago
i just finally started to remember how to make and pull coldbrew, and then i see these !!! what are these!!!!
EliMinivan [OP] 8 points 1y ago
They are the replacement for the "Toddy" cold brew maker. They automatically dispense the cold brew into buckets after 20 hours so you don't forget about it. But it really isn't more convenient than a sticky note on your daily planner. It also takes up way more space and gives you twice the amount of things to wash when you're done.
cynicosm 2 points 1y ago
thank you for explaining! they literally started leaking/overflowing at my store after i left this comment -___- so annoying
brokenleftjoycon 6 points 1y ago
I like these. I often tore the filter bags or didn’t tie them enough so grounds would get in the cold brew with toddies. They do take longer to clean though.
mls91314 6 points 1y ago
At least you only have one. We have six brewers and have to empty, clean and refill everyday
sasschester 5 points 1y ago
Nice concept. Terrible design.
The only aspect i like in this thing is the 20 hr automatic pull. But other than that, they are terrible to take apart and clean, not to mention they don’t divide the cb evenly
Necessary_Low939 4 points 1y ago
Thank goodness I’m a closer. Never had to mess with this lolo
EliMinivan [OP] 2 points 1y ago
I am a closer and have to mess with it all the time. Work at a licensed bux tho
Necessary_Low939 1 points 1y ago
ThAts annoying.
bauhaustattoo 1 points 1y ago
Also a closer at my store and the CB is usually done by my closing team as one of our pre-closing tasks when things die down.
Necessary_Low939 1 points 1y ago
Sounds like they make closers do everything at ur store. Same as us but we don’t have to do cold brew. That’s an afternoon task
bauhaustattoo 1 points 1y ago
Our 26-year old store (oldest one in the district too) is too small to function normally, so we’re forced to allocate most tasks to the portion of the day where we have fewer people and more room to maneuver things like the cold brewers.
Necessary_Low939 1 points 1y ago
Oh ok
yesixox 3 points 1y ago
They didn't think about the short ppl like myself 🤧
Ali-McWonderland 3 points 1y ago
Be thankful you only have one. There are five in my store (and 3 toddies- cold brew is apparently thing around these parts!) 😂
bauhaustattoo 1 points 1y ago
I don’t think your store is supposed to have kept the Toddies once they got the new brewers in.
Ali-McWonderland 1 points 11m ago
Yeah- once Al of them came it, out went the toddies.
witcheselementality 2 points 1y ago
I love these so much. Maybe it's because I'm one of the 2 people who ever bothers to do cold brew at my store, but I think these are so much easier. No more trying to fit the filter on the toddy, no more tying the string making sure none of the grounds get out, and no more finding time to pull cold brew while we're busy.

I think these are the best
Any-Area8729 2 points 1y ago
I actually make cold brew in ours for the first time last night. I've been asking other partners to do it since we got them a couple weeks ago, but last night I was the only one that semi knew how to use it haha. It really wasn't bad. I loved that I didn't have to lift or tie off the filter like the old toddies
TJW351 2 points 1y ago
Oh no don’t say that. We just got ours in this week and we haven’t set them up yet 😭
angryairheadaries 1 points 1y ago
thank you. i definitely hate them too.
0x52and1x52 1 points 1y ago
these things are literally so nice lol. you can clean them in two hobart cycles and you don't have to tilt the fuckin thing to get all 10L of cold brew out.
EliMinivan [OP] 1 points 1y ago
I work in a licensed bux. We only make cold brew 1 or MAYBE 2 times per week, and we don't have a dishwasher. We don't even need to make cold brew before noon, so the auto emptying feature is useless. It takes up a ton of space. And it has twice as much stuff to wash as the Toddy gives you. Half of the parts that we now need to wash don't even fit in the sink entirely, making it a pain in the ass to wash. I fucking hate it.

Already had mine leak 3L of cold brew all over my floor. Team Lead came in for the open and left it for me to clean on my 10am start
xXTimbloXx 1 points 1y ago
The only plus side is that I can make it first thing in the morning and not worry about having someone in the store to dispense it.

One of many downsides is that sometimes it likes to dispense itself all over the floors while nobody is in the store to stop it.
EliMinivan [OP] 1 points 1y ago
My store only has 1 person staffed between 445am and 630am (we are licensed in a Safeway). we never have the need it time to make it that early
xXTimbloXx 1 points 1y ago
Ahhh that makes sense. Then yeah there’s absolutely no use for them.
Green_dust 1 points 1y ago
Also hair and dust floats into them because it's not sealed. 🤢
