I always just let the bar person know that I am available to help if they need it before touching anything. I feel useless when I’m just standing there watching them drown in tickets

I always get so annoyed when someone finishes my drinks (ESPECIALLY the drive person, it just grinds my gears) but it’s the worsttttt when they just do it and don’t say anything. At least say ”hey I’m finishing this [drink]!” So that I know what’s going on with my sequencing

Perfectly natural to get angry, he entered your work space without permission and disrupted your workflow. His actions were selfish and inconsiderate.

Ive been working at starbucks for 2 years now and i constantly get people floating over to bar when im on bar and pulling stickers n doing drinks. Whether theyre tenured partners or newer partners (especially newer partners) they just always do it. I dont mind wen its our rush time or its busy but also, theyre supposed to stay planted in their position unless its busy and i need help and theyre on CS and available to help. But even wen i habe 2 drinks that im working on, like 1 drink on the one espresso machine and the 2nd drink on the second espresso machine, ill have a coworker come and stand in front of the other machine and wait to finish that drink. And ill tell them sometimes "hey i dont need any help right now but i do appreciate it. Its so slow right now but ill definitely ask if i need help" and it never works. My bar area is small too. My shift once had 1 person on cold bar and me on hot bar and a third person came and stood in front of the other espresso machine next to me. It was soooo dead. There were zero drinks. Sometimes my manager says i have to pick up my speed and how can i wen i constantly have people helping me when i dont need the help? I wana get faster with sequencing between hot n cold. I can do it but im not too fast at that cuz people always float over to my side even when its really slow

I mean I don’t know you or the partner but here’s my input. I always make some drink for partners when; there’s a rush, they are new and (be being a trainer) know they know how to make a drink will do it for them, if there’s a large quantity of let’s say fraps and it easier if one person is planted (I ask ofc)… other partners have just walked over and started making drink bc if two ppl are making them then it can make more time to do other things (preps, cleaning, restock). There have been many times where certain partners need help but don’t ask so others jump in if the wait time is x mins. However if you can’t use one of the reasons listed or think of your own then talk with them. Let them know they are at a planted position and if you need them to flex you’ll communicate that. If they need things to do coach them or ask a shift to. It can be frustrating when someone interrupts your flow abs takes some of what you get little of. I personally like to think people have good intentions (it keeps me from getting mad over nothing or just trying to work thu the prob calmly) until they prove otherwise
Summary- Figure out why they may be helping you and coach from there using things like planted positions.

This is how I feel when I’m on customer support and POS starts messing with the brewing station

I always hated this so much.
I dead ass used to tell people they were in my way and slowing me down. If I need help I'll call you.
Everytime they touched my drinks and I approached before they finished I'd say "I can't sequence if you are in my way, please stop and move. I'll ask for help if I need it."
Or, my personal favorite was to dump out whatever they were "finishing" and restart it, letting them know they'd fucked up and say, "if you'd like to actually be helpful I could use some ice."
But hey, i was a petty bitch who worked there way too long. And they were actually in my way and slowing me down.
People eventually get the hint.
