can you guys smell coffee anymore (self.starbucksbaristas)

I went to a reserve store the other day with my fiancé and when we walked in he was saying it smells so nice in here(referring to the coffee). and it hit me that i can’t smell it at all, and i can’t recall walking into work smelling coffee at all. like when we do coffee tastings i have to put it close to my nose to actually smell it. or when id get off work my fiancé would say my work clothes smell like coffee but i just couldn’t smell it. am i going crazy? it’s not covid or anything because this has been going on far before covid was even a thing. i’ve been a partner for 6 years now and i can’t recall a single time of walking into a coffee shop being able to smell any coffee upon entering. even when i’m on bar actively using the espresso machine and pulling shots i can’t smell it at all.

Nope. Not crazy. I used to be able to smell myself after work. Now I can’t. But if I go anywhere after work people always comment about how “good” I smell. 🤮

you’re desensitized to the smell. similar to how you don’t know how your house smells bc you’re always there. customers in drive thru will always say ‘omg it smells so good in there’ and i never know what they’re talking about but i remember before i worked there i loved the smell

I can’t smell it either…other people will smell it on my clothes and I literally smell nothing. I’m just realizing now that I barely smell it at work…

I worked for Starbucks for 9 years until 2020. My husband would say I smelt like coffee after shifts as well but I couldn’t smell it. It wasn’t until last year that I walked in to a coffee shop and it smelt amazing. So I agree with everyone, you’re sadly just desensitized to the smell of coffee, which is crazy because now that I can smell it again, smells super strong lol.

at this point, the only time i still smell it is if i go to another starbucks that isn’t my own or throw on a pair of pants i wore to work. it only lasts a minute before it goes away again </3
