Shifts and Manager need to be doing their JOBS! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by MemesandSpeech
Consistently, one of my workers be calling "Sick" on Friday's. It's gotten to the point where no one is really surprised once they hear the store phone ring, couple mins before his shift starts and he nowhere in sight! I don't understand why the manager puts him on Friday if he is highly going to call out at the last minute.

Like I get the managers & shifts can't call his bluff is he legit or not sick BUT ALL I'M SAYING IS, if you see the constant pattern on constantly calling out; especially on Friday's....either take cause and take him off Friday's or let him go and someone else can deal with that. -\_-

FR! At my old store, one of my coworkers would come 30 mins late CONSTANTLY when opening. My shift would not say anything but to write on the book to say she came on time while if I come a tad late cause Lyft, I would get the "Maybe you should get out earlyer" b.s

I left my old store cause of B.S like this

Thats annoying cuz then the baristas on shift have to do more work then they already do since that person is consistently calling out. We have someone at my store who always calls out too. Oh and we have someone at my store who is constantly freakin texting around asking if others can cover her shift. Not on any specific days...just all over the place on any random days. But she always tries to switch shifts with people...like change ur availability. Idk how my manager hasnt stopped it yet and wen i answer back that i cant and that im sorry, she doesnt even answer back and say thank u or thank u for getting back to me.

I take shifts at time out of the blue when my manager messages me asking I'm available. I'll do it then to then get a msg from one of my coworkers saying "thanks for taking my shift"

I also have one in which if you don't take her coverage /shift, she going to leave you on read when ask if she can take one of yours and comes in with attitude. -\_\_- Like my bad if I don't want to do a double or want a chill day to myself

Agreed! That would be really annoying to get a text from your store manager and then agree to take shift and then have a co-worker text you right after that because then you know that they were having the manager asked around because they know that people are most likely to say yes to a manager.

But yeah I'll do the same thing like I'll take people's shifts if I can or if I feel like it or if I need the hours in actuality it's all up to me and I don't even need to give a reason if I can't but sometimes some co-workers will just ask if you can take a shift without offering to take one of your arms and return if you want and then when you say no then they have attitude but it's like at least we respond back to them and they didn't even offer to help us out of any point so why have attitude towards us

Is he calling in sick all the time? Or got some other excuse?
MemesandSpeech [OP] 1 points 1y ago
From what I hear often is "Sick" and on suppose Friday the most
PiscesQueen24 3 points 1y ago
Yeah this is my store currently on Wednesday and Thursday 4 baristas from my shift called out “sick” , same thing for this morning. It’s stressful having to work under these conditions since my SM is a hard ass that refuses to close the cafe when it’s a 4 people play. I wish fellow partners could at least consider searching for coverage for their shift because it SUCKS being short staffed and they know it
happybowlita83 3 points 1y ago
This is all the SM the shifts have nothing to do with scheduling and can't take any action regarding their call out pattern either. They can only work with what they've got on the floor and try finding coverage.

We have the SAME thing happen with one of our partners. She calls off almost every shift and then complains that she doesn’t get scheduled. The other day she was scheduled and had the nerve to message in the group chat that she didn’t want to come on and was wondering whether she was actually needed or it was just a “casual” thing. Everyone was so mad at her because she *asked* for the hours! We have another girl who is always late, and sometimes just won’t show up. It’s a wonder both of these girls haven’t been fired yet.

I have a partner who comes late....like an hour late! She always come rushing in and always say "she didn't knew she worked today" even when we have our schedule set downstairs at the BOH. My boss said she was gonna talk to her about it but this girl still does it and I'm this close to not caring and coming late, ask for a immediate transfer or quit all over again.

Honestly now the annoying girl is popular even though she talks crap about everyone (literally no filter, judges people when they don't do the drink right; although she does this TOO) and constantly watches the clock etc. The reason I believe people like her either cause they warmed up to her or cause she takes shift (even though she be complaining how she has to work 6 days when she could had said no and not complain on the floor or brag bout it -_-)

That would drive me crazy! The people who no call/no show or are super late make me the most mad. Even if you oversleep, at least have the decency to call when you wake up and make an effort to apologize!
