reapplied but this time as a shift…. should i be worried i’m not fit for it? *venti rant with questions at the end* (self.starbucksbaristas)

so i recently had quit the siren due to some toxicity at my store. I couldn’t transfer because there weren’t any open spots for me as a barista at the time. My new job sucks. I was told i’d be getting at least 25 hours a week but i had gotten my schedule for the next two weeks and i am only working three days total. On top of that, they are constantly cutting my shift if we don’t make a sales goal the previous day. I hate that a lot because i never have a consistent amount of hours and i’m always worried about having my shift cut so I’ve decided i’m going to reapply at the Bux but this time at a store near mine and as an SSV. I don’t know if i’m fit for the job or not but i figured i’d bite the bullet and apply anyways because i felt more comfortable working at the Siren than i do at my new job. Should i be worried? What are the requirements to be a shift? How does the training work? Any advice would help please!

there's nothing to lose from applying as a shift. as a shift you need to be able to do things like pulling pastries from the freezer, money counts, milk counts yadda yadda...

i actually just applied to be a shift and during my interview with my dm she was asking questions like "how would you handle a situation of toxicity between partners" or "how would you handle a situation in which a customer is arguing with a barista" and things like that. i think above all else they just want to see some sense of responsibility coming from you on top of a drive to do your job the way you're supposed to.

multiple people in the store need to rely on shift supervisors, so you gotta make sure you're comfortable with taking control over unruly customers / partners and stuff like that

also i dont know if you HAVE to train someone to be a shift, but that was part of my interview too. i think they just want to make sure that you know how to do all of the recipes and stuffs correctly.

it is kind of a huge wall of text sorry lol but in the end i dont think being a shift is THAT hard, you just gotta be responsible

this made me feel better a lot, thank you! i was with the company for almost a year before leaving so i spent a lot of time around my ssv’s and really closely watched how they ran things. I took note of how they diffused toxic situations between baristas and customers, not so much between baristas themselves bc there wasn’t any of that at my store (only really towards me), but i’ve had experience with diffusing toxic situations between coworkers and customers at my job before starbucks. i’m really hoping i get an interview at least right now 😅
