My roomate is a shift supervisor at SB. She is really amazing and kind, but she feels like she is seeing herself become a worse person bc of the work. Does anyone have advice for dealing with something like this?(self.starbucksbaristas)

My roomate is so amazing but customer service has made her patience wear so thin. She is more negative than before and is aware of it. its causing her a lot of stress and I'm worried for her. She needs the benefits so she can not quit at least not for another year.

Therapy, you can get alot of free sessions through Starbucks. Just having someone there who you can be unfiltered with is Hella cathartic

at the end of the day, starbucks is going to test your patience and stress, and you just have to let it. unfortunately, the job is exhausting and some people are just not made for it, but see if bonding with her or talking to her about her day helps her relieve some of that stress.

Take some time off. Honestly I am known as a kind person who never gets mad. However I’ve noticed that my patience is getting thin and some of the things I do though unintentional seem rude ofc I apologize to them and make sure to think twice but I took some time off and noticed when I can back I was back to my old self.

genuine advice from someone who was your roommate until a week ago (shift who started to feel like i was becoming mean and negative) , if she can’t leave for right now grit your teeth and bear it (and therapy to manage in the meantime) and then get out , it isn’t likely to get much better and only wear her down more. best of luck

I was in the same boat. We are better than starbucks though. Even in our lowest points we are still us and worthy of kindness and having the space needed to be able to be kind to others 💛 OP, there is a light at the end for everyone. You are such a good friend. My advice to others: Plan out when you will quit and start another job search. Take advantage of free therapy and RANT about starbucks to your therapist. The sheer weight that lifted off my shoulders when i emailed my resignation just validates how awful this company made me feel. Best of luck to all out there feeling this now💛

I use to be a front end supervisor at Whole Foods and felt the exact same way. It was to the point just driving to work I was already miserable.
I had to basically take 9 months off from working (I had a baby and know not everyone can just take that much time off), I went to therapy, and basically had to basically find myself again.
Now that I work at Starbucks, I see how much stress being in charge and dealing with shitty customers brought me. I decided that I have no desire to move up and I am perfectly content letting someone else call the shots. I just work here 🤷🏻♀️
