This lady comes in twice a day to get an 8 shot venti chocolate almond milk espresso, sometimes wants it blended sometimes not, but always DEMANDS it in a trenta so she gets her full shots. She’s screamed, berated, and bitched at every barista who tells her no to the point when my SM did it for her once. When she came thru DT, she was incredibly rude to one of our nicest partners, who offered to put it in two cups without doing less ice or less milk, and she basically foamed at the mouth because we wouldn’t break protocol for her. After maybe 15-20 minutes the phone rang, I knew it was her and since I’m promoting myself to customer I figured I’d be able to take her verbal abuse without worrying much about my job stakes. She asked for a manager (this was a Friday, he doesn’t work until Monday) so when I told her this she replied with the above statements. After calling us a slur she IMMEDIATELY hung up.
According to my shift from that day who let the shift group chat know, she won’t be banned but she will be “talked to” about her inappropriate behavior. We are also sticking to our guns if she comes in, she’ll get her drink in a venti with any leftover in a separate cup. I can only assume this will cause EVEN MORE verbal abuse towards our baristas.
Also, get this. She’s a nurse in our local nearby hospital. I feel so bad for her poor patients who may have to deal with her bad attitude with their lives on the line.

Our biggest mega Karen is a labor and delivery nurse. It was fun when she ended up being the one to be in the room when our sm went to deliver. She only came back once after sm came back from leave.

I hate this so much, all this verbal abuse and she gets a talking to? No fuck all that! Get out of my store I do not want your business and I refuse to interact with you and your god awful behavior. Luckily I have not been in this situation to where I need to be firm but if I do I refuse to take this crap

Honestly I wish she would let us to light ice to fit in a venti. It’ll fit if it’s just shaken, but when it’s blended it expands (especially w that many shots) so that’s the only time I’d feel even a little bit comfortable putting extra in a cup. Usually if someone is nice and they get 3+ shots I’ll tell them it might not fit or even that I’ll put extra in a cup just this once, but let them know the more shots the more excess so they can avoid it in the future. If my manager did it for her once without explicitly saying it was ONCE, that’s on him so setting an unreachable expectation. We haven’t been coached to do it and we won’t do it anyway.

Well, good luck getting her to let y'all follow the policy. Sometimes crazy people like this talk to a DM and the DM sides with them for whatever reason and you've gotta start breaking a policy for that one particular customer.
If she wasn't such an idiot she'd just bring a thirty-ounce reusable cup.

We had a customer banned for less (not much less - I feel like she was more threatening to our safety, but she didn’t berate us nearly as bad as what you’ve just laid out).
Side note to say: every person I know currently who is a nurse was a bully in high school :)

People that think they deserve something extra simply because of the amount of money that they CHOOSE to spend daily are ridiculous. This would be the equivalent of demanding free accessories from the clothing store because you bought clothes from them. I do not understand why Starbucks customers don’t understand reality. It’s absurd. I can only imagine that it is because they’ve been able to behave so badly and be so demanding and still get their way. I’m sorry, but you can only assume good intent so many times before you realize that someone just plain sucks. This lady sucks and deserves to be publicly shamed. Imagine if you let her hospital administrator know how she behaves.

Yeah. These people think they’re so important because they come here every day. Like, okay, stop coming here and see how much we miss you! Oh, wait, we’re literally making MORE money now that you’ve stopped coming because now we can serve more customers with you out of the way. And customers like that usually also scare away all the nice customers. And on top of that, they SAY they won’t come back, but then sure enough you see them walk right back in a week later like nothing happened.

don’t get me started on having coworkers who let them get away with this. had a smart ass tell me “i give them what they want and sometimes free drinks thats why customers don’t get mad at me”. As if that’s such a more respectable thing to do then follow policy and stand up for yourself and others? Not surprisingly he let an angry customer verbally assault me one busy afternoon, lady was screaming at the top of her lungs because i told her we were understaffed and had a 15 drink order so it might be a bit until we caught up with orders 🙂

And honestly, it’s such a good things to give people that heads up when they order. That way, if they know they can’t wait, they can just cancel the order and be on their way. I wish everyone would work together to create an environment where the customers know what’s expected from them (honesty, patience, reasonable orders and requests) and not where they just get what they want no matter what.

Couldn't she just order 2 ventis and politely ask for a Trent cup of ice? And then put money conspicuously in the tip jar occasionally? I have regulars that mobile order and request cups of ice/ ice water daily. Are nice and occasionally tip. I go out of my way to make sure they don't have to wait or ask for their extras bc I know the order. Kindness is the key .

If I were you I would call partner services and report an unsafe work environment. Discuss how your mental health is being affected etc. This definitely fits the definition of mental abuse.

I’m on my way out, thankfully. I’m following about 4 other people who are all tired of getting yelled at by customers, not trusted by the manager to do our jobs, not being supported when we try to point out thi by a that could be fixed. We’re told to “handle it” or even told its being handled when it isnt

I'm really sorry to hear all that you've been through. Things with the siren aren't great now and I have been with lousy SMs but thankfully I'm not experiencing both things at the same time.
The bottom line with everything that's been said is that you should always put your well-being (and that of your co-workers) first. If that means moving onto a new environment because you're not getting the support you should be then I wish you only the best.

Soo one op I am so sorry she treated you and all your partners this way so terrible and a derogatory word. I have customers that think because they paid for something already. They can skip the line if they want to buy something else. They will say something similar to "well I already paid, they haven't paid so you should ring me up for () now" that's not how this works you adult toddler. Bonus. Our store doesn't give venti or Trenta waters due to very consistent cup shortages. We get so many people a day who want to say "well can I just buy a Trenta cup" and I have to go through the whole "money does not change the fact that we are having a shortage" speal. Oi these customers might be getting too much for me

People really need to learn that people in customer service are, in fact, people. They also need to learn that it’s just a drink and that they can’t just force us to break rules and regulations just because they think they’re special. I say it all the time, everyone should have to work a customer service job at least once in their life to learn what it’s like to do the job and deal with these people.

I’m kinda confused as to why 2 venti cups makes more sense for you than 1 trenta. I sell way more ventis so I know I’ll always have trentas available

But aren’t we also not supposed to split cups either? Like I feel like there are exceptions to a lot of things. Like is there an official rule to drinks with no ice? And then getting ice on the side 😒 (I’ve started to charge for either extra milk or base when the ask that)

dang that sucks, we would of done it regardless of what rules (I don't think my store has that same rule since we aren't corporate) but no sbux workers deserves to be yelled and berated like that. My manager would of had her banned

We’re a busy store located around a lot of medical buildings. The amount of doctors/nurses that come in with 10+ drinks and a bad attitude could pay my rent. If I could get half of them banned for their disgusting attitudes we’d still have the majority of our partners.
