Former Starbucks Employees - why did you leave? (self.starbucksbaristas)

What's the number 1 reason you left? Will you ever go back?

1. I got tired of spoiled customers and their nasty drinks. Don’t get me wrong, there were tons of lovely customers that i miss, but i hate the customers that act like they own us.

2. I wanted my mornings and weekends back. I was often scheduled before 6 am and almost every weekend. When i was hired, i was told i wouldn’t have to be stuck with weekends. Turns out, i didn’t get much of a say in my OWN availability because the baristas that were there longer were more important.

3. I was stuck on bar for 5+ hours. The baristas that were there longer than me got priority of their placement. So i got burned out too often on bar while they got to do tips, CS, and dishes

Would I go back? Absolutely not. Starbucks is dwindling and I don’t want to be anywhere near it

Micromanaging, pecking order, unsanitary

Started working at Starbucks around 2014- partner number 203xxx. Left for a better paying job after finishing school. Working at Starbucks helped me graduate without any student loans. I would not go back lol

I recently got rehired but I originally left my old store because it was just total chaos. 3 people scheduled during peak at a very high volume store, not allowed to turn off mobile orders ever, not able to take breaks, giving more refunds than drinks, 50+ people in the very small lobby when at the time covid restrictions limited it to 10, being constantly berated by customers. It felt like a video game that I was constantly losing and for $12 an hour it was simply not worth it.

I’m currently working out my two week notice after being here a little over two years. I would say I’m overall fed up with the job in general, I reached a point where I’m sick of the job. But I think we are 100% not paid for the bs we deal with. I work at a constantly busy store, there is no downtime. It gets real tiring. I only make a bit more money than when I started. Plenty of other places pay $15 just starting, it’s basically the new min wage..and other places seem like less work for more money. I HATE the customer connections and how it’s never good enough and the drive thru times are never good enough either. My store has become super toxic too, and there’s so many new people so it’s not the same anymore. Only positive things I have to say is free food/drinks, I liked my store manager, and I had good hours for the most part.

I only left because I was overwhelmed with working two jobs. Starbucks was my second job and I utilized it as additional pay/savings for a new car (that I now have)

I would absolutely return. I enjoyed every shift but I also gotta thank my fellow partners for that, they helped make working there enjoyable for me. I also enjoyed working there anyways, so. I was there for over a year.

Yeah, I’d absolutely go back.

Customer abuse, dirtiness, being given contradictory commands and trying to follow them (get customers out in under 30 but also make them feel connected and cared for but also they can call you nasty names and swear at you with no repercussions but also we believe in taking care of our partners).

Would I go back? Not if my life depended on it

i got a better paying job across the street 🥴 still a barista but now I get cash tips and don’t get harassed by custies (well i do but i can stick up for myself)

First time (2017) I got a better FT job.

Now (last shift is next week) my one day a week shift turned my tax refund of $485 into me having to pay in $200. Doesn’t make sense financially to stay for chump change, no matter how much I like my store and SM.

I started at Starbucks in 2019 and left after 2 months because my store manager told me that I would be able to go home for my college winter break and then was mad that I couldn’t work holidays over the break even though I lived 5 hours away and didn’t have winter housing on campus. I also was not liked by the shifts for not learning everything as quickly as they wanted (they wanted me to do dto/warming by myself in like my first month there) and they would get mad when I didn’t know something or asked questions. I moved across country and decided to give Starbucks another go last fall and I love my store and my coworkers and I’m really happy with my job
