Cinnamon Dolce Powder making my throat hurt? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Blonde-RU2-Mastrena
I accidentally put some in my drink thinking it was the cinnamon shaker and thought it would not be that big of a deal but every time I take a sip my throat feels sore and swollen and it takes a little bit for it to go away.

I can handle at work, no problem. It's just drinking/swallowing it? There does not seem to be anything weird in it I would be allergic to. There was no other thing it could have had in it as I made it myself. Has this happened to anybody else?

Is there any butter/dairy extract in the dolce powder? Former partner, but that sounds familiar. Or any artificial sugar allergies? I could see an open pack of something nearby getting spilled / cross contaminated or something.

I don't know any allergies besides a very mild nut allergy. And shellfish. Not to the extent that it causes anaphylaxis I just take Benadryl when I come home. I don't eat them for that reason, but I can handle them.

Does it have nuts in it? The ingredients don't say nuts are in it, tho.

Nuts seems unlikely, but it might be made in a factory or something with nuts. Or I’m not sure if there’s any seasonal toppings with nuts that could cross contaminate, but that seems even less likely. The artificial sugar packets like exploading opening in a rush which is why they came to mind.

The only other idea I have is just along the lines of “is your throat otherwise irritated and is a hot drink just worsening it” or similar. It is allergy season in a lot of places. I know for me even plain water seems to make my throat scratchy sometimes (I switch to tea with honey or something with a splash of dairy), but I don’t know anyone else who has said similar. I don’t know that this is likely at all.

Good luck figuring it out though!

“CINNAMON DOLCE TOPPING [SUGAR, CINNAMON, SALT, EXTRACTIVES OF BUTTER (MILK), AND OTHER NATURAL FLAVOR]” here’s the ingredients from the website but almost all starbucks food/drink is made with shared machinery, including the factories the powder came from. it probably did have trace amounts of nuts but it’s impossible to tell. i hope you feel better!
