Question about picking up product from other stores(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by felinefireghost
So I know we get paid mileage one way from the other store to ours, but as far as time paid goes- we are always asked to get product before we come in to work. So in this case, I have to leave earlier than I usually do to go get the product to make sure I’m at work on time. Regardless of how long it takes, what’s the official policy here? I am picking up product for my store, so it’s a work-related task… it just seems like a slippery slope. I don’t mind doing it but I kind of don’t like having to leave for work earlier than usual when I’m not being compensated for my time. Any advice is appreciated.

At my store people are usually clocked in when they go get product. If its before their shift they write the extra time in the book. I dont know if this is correct, but i would imagine it is. You’re working, you deserve to be paid for that time

Yeah, same here — write that time in the book.

As a recently self-separated ASM I can tell you that if you go pick up product before your shift, write the time you left your house in the book. You are performing an “out of store activity” and need to be compensated for it.

Thank you for this. I checked Reddit for answers before I left today and I took your advice!

I believe you can also write mileage in the book, not sure how much it gets paid tho

Thank you, I did this as well!

I usually tell people to pick up product on their way in and they know that I don't expect them to be there on time so they'll go get it when they're supposed to be in. OR if we're short and need them immediately or something they'll tell me when they go and we'll write them in for the extra time

At my store we just write in the extra drive time listed on the maps from our store, or we show up late and leave at the normal time. Just make sure it is communicated if you are doing the late route.

You don't get paid to drive to work so the clock starts when you get to store A to pick up the product. Every minute after is paid time and mileage.

I figured as much, so just to be safe I shaved off 10 minutes from the time I left my house and just added from when I got to the store to when i got to my store.
