my pay rate dropped? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by hotcheetomamii
i’m a partner in northern california, and i’m moving about 90 miles away from where im currently living and work. Next week i’m transferring to a store out in my new town. I’ve been in the process for 3 months working with both managers to get me from store A to store B. it’s been a long one and i’ve felt as though i was being disregarded in a lot of ways, but that’s a different story. I have JUST been notified i’m gonna be making less. with less then one week away from my move, giving me no time to reconsider and try to find another job. i’m fuming, i’ve been dropped a whole dollar, though that might seem like a little, can really make a difference in my paychecks. i’ve also had to cut my hours as well, going from needing 32, to having to make it work and compromise with 18. i seriously can’t live off this, i’m a self supporting student with no help from my parents, paying my own rent, and any other bill i have. It feels really demeaning that having been a partner for over a year now, my work for this company really doesn’t mean anything (but maybe i shouldn’t have thought i was important from the start). i really wanted to try and stay with the company in my new town because i love the job but i can’t be belittled like this by a company that couldn’t care less.

normally when transferring cities, the min. wage changes. In New York, was @10$, then moved to florida and was 9.50, then moved to denver Baristas make over 16$ here and shifts 20$+. All depends on the cost of living in your area. Not the company shitting on you personally.

i’m just confused because like i said i moved only an hour and a half away and i’m still in the same state. the cost of living in the area i moved to is almost exactly the same as where i moved from. i didn’t move from a big city to a small town. i moved from one regular sized city to another. i will still be doing the same level of work, and have the same cost of living. not only that but to not even have this mentioned to me until i have no other choice but to go through with it is upsetting.

I would call partner resources and ask for the exact rate of pay/cost of living differential is from going from your current town to your new town. More than likely it is in the cost of living difference. I live in CA and the difference in pay rate from one place to another in the same state (even in the same central area)was big even though both cities were consider major ones.

There is a county in my state only an hour away that has a higher minimum wage than every other county and it’s not much fancier. Maybe it’s like that?

Going from South Florida to Central Florida bumped you up a whole dollar even though COL in Miami is wayyy higher than Orlando. Makes no sense but it just be like that. Hang tight for the wage raise they’ve been talking about!
