I honestly had no clue until I started talking to the barista. 'Pumps' and 'shots' meant nothing to me until I asked a random question decades ago. Which explained why every time I bought a bottle of syrup on sale at the grocery store it never made a difference. I was putting in what seemed like a reasonable amount. I.E. about a tablespoon (half an ounce). 🤦🏾‍♀️

Then I started buying monin syrups a few years ago and it truly clicked once I used the pumps. So now I understand why these orders seem so batshit crazy. It's like not realizing what's in your drinks until you see that $1of drinks with bags of sugar under it. It just never occurred to me to think of it.

I'll hit the whip button when the drink normally gets whip, but the order has non-dairy in it, so bar knows it was asked. Just to save confusion.

Barista probably did an ask me. One of the baristas at my store does that even though I have showed her how to do “no whip add whip.”
