I have plenty of tattoos and none of them are against the dress code, and my managers have even told me they are okay. I recently got a tattoo that says “my body my choice” on my arm, and my manager told me it was too “political” and “offensive to some religious people” is this okay for him to do? should i contact ethics?

technically yeah can be seen as “political” and while i don’t believe that it is the dress code states that all visible tattoos have to be not being seen as political or offensive so your manager isn’t wrong in what they’re saying

im wondering if this is an issue i can contact ethics about, there are other baristas who have tattoos with religious symbols and one who has a trump tattoo and they’re allowed for it to be seen, could this be discrimination in the workplace

I have a tattoo with the Elizabeth warren quote “nevertheless, she persisted”. Never been an issue. And I’d laugh if they tried to make it one.

I literally have a pot leaf tattooed on my wrist and am an ASM about to get my own store.
This shouldn't be an issue. If he pushes it I would take it to your DM and then ethics

I just looked up the official wording in the partner handbook and it says “Tattoos Visible tattoos on the face or throat are not allowed. Other visible tattoos are permitted but must not contain images or words that are obscene, profane, racist, sexual in nature or otherwise objectionable. Disallowed tattoos must be covered with dress-code compliant clothing (i.e., long- sleeved shirts, pants, turtlenecks) or concealing makeup. Due to hand washing requirements, bandages and makeup cannot be used as methods for covering inappropriate hand tattoos. The use of food service gloves to cover inappropriate hand tattoos is not permitted.” It doesn’t say anything about religious or political. That phrase could relate to any situation so I don’t think it would be considered offensive. If the SM writes you up or makes you cover it, take it to the next level. Or better yet ask the SM to get clarification from Partner Resources. They gave the final word and they go with what’s in the handbook.

I work at a hospital in their Starbucks and they keep telling me to cover mine but people love seeing my Disney sleeve

Tell them they are interpreting it wrong because people have the right to not wear a mask and you feel Ike that infringes on your political views
