Getting punished for "calling out" but still getting the shift covered. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Megaman3220
Hello. Some of my fellow partners have been receiving write-ups or official "warnings" about their excessive callouts in a certain month (4 or 5). However when they are told the dates of these callouts, most if not all of them found coverage for their shift, and the coverage showed up and worked said shift. The manager is saying that even if you do find coverage for your shift, or you give your shift to another person who wants the hours, you are still considered a "call-out" and are able to be written up for poor attendance for it. This just doesn't sound right to me, but who knows with this company. Is there anyone who can show me a policy where this is true, or maybe provide evidence to the contrary that I can bring to my manager showing that their policy isn't Starbucks policy? Any feedback would be great, I just don't want to see my coworkers getting punished for finding coverage for shifts they can't make.

From what I understand, just a one off is okay, but if you are frequently finding coverage for your shifts, you can be written up for irregular attendance of scheduled shifts and will probably be encouraged to change your availability

Ask your manager to show you where this is the policy in the partner guide!!!

The only think I do know is that if you’re finding coverage you have to notify the store who is covering the shift so it can be updated in the DCR and DRB

4-5 callouts in a month wouldn’t be very concerning ordinarily, unless they only are scheduled 1-2 shifts per week. The reason it can become an issue is that irregularly being at work can affect your job performance and growth. We have a partner that constantly gets shifts scheduled and it’s to the point where she isn’t an effective employee now because she doesn’t know what’s she’s doing

Ultimately the policy is intentionally vague on attendance, and just states that “irregular attendance” is a problem, but doesn’t define what that meansn

Irregular attendance is calling out/getting covered/anyway not being the person who shows up for 20% or more of your shifts in a 6 week period.

Do you know where to find that in writing? I’ve never seen it spelled out/defined clearly
