The chalk marker holds final and absolute rule over your store

I feel this comment so hard. I fucking hate the chalk markers instead of dry erase or day dots. Just ugh.

There's no company wide policy because this will depend on the size of your store's staff. A big, busy store with 45 partners can absorb more requests off than a small store with 20. Managers have leeway to establish what can work for their store, and at face value, this policy doesn't seem unreasonable.

My manager might say no initially to make sure he can staff a day, but if he found in the end that he could give it to you, he still would. Otherwise it's up to you to trade it to someone.

thanks for the heads up! my store has about 30 partners. I was just curious because it is a brand new policy here, and some people were annoyed since it applies to requests prior to when this policy was implemented.

It seems to me that a reasonable manager would honor the requests off for everyone they could if they know what days people want, but this seems like a good way to manage expectations. Surely the previous policy wasn't like "if you request it off you get it off." But I'd hope this policy wouldn't be applied so rigidly that she'd deny additional requests that happen to be workable.

Some stores have 45 partners!?!?!? We can barely keep 15..

I was at Disney World last week, and while the stores inside the parks are licensed, I counted 16 people visible on the floor when I was in, and surely there's a few more in back and on breaks. They've got to have a staff of like 50, maybe more, for each park.

This isn’t an active policy at my store, but it may be due to the amount of time off requests that your store is receiving all at once… not sure if it’s a true policy or not.

This is the policy at my store too. My new manager tries to legitimately accommodating but my previous manager was pretty petty and would deny almost every weekend request then surprised when people called out

what does 2 shifts per day mean?
esaeklsg 10 points 1y ago
Only two shift supervisors can request off.

At my old cafe store, since it was small it was on a first come first serve basis and there would only be 4 slots open, and I felt it was reasonable since we only had like 20 partners, now that I’m at a bigger store it’s still a first come first serve but I think there’s more chances to have your time off approved cause we have about 40 partners and 8 shift supervisors

At my store only 2 people can get the same day off. So if my SM goes on vacation and someone has to travel for family or an emergency, they most likely won't get off.

Only time we’ve had something like this happen is when almost everyone ends up requesting the same days off. Our store manager tells us to get together and figure out who gets the day off and let her know. Worked well for us

In a store with 40 partners we had the same thing.
