Wait y’all get 2 10s? I’m in ny and I get one half :/
Edit: I get one half and one ten
giftedburn0ut [OP]3 points1y ago
you only get one break for an eight hour shift? that sounds awful
SmolLizardManth1 points1y ago
Sorry i get a signal 10 and a half. But if I work under 6 hours I only get that 10
giftedburn0ut [OP]1 points1y ago
oh wow. my breaks go like this: 2 hr 45 mins-4 hr 45 mins - one ten 4 hr 45 mins-6 hr 45 mins - one ten and one half 6 hr 45 mins-8 hr 45 mins- two tens, one half and so on, I worked a 12 hour shift once with three tens and two halves, I do not recommend and I'm not even sure that's allowed

Texas, U.S.! I work 8 hr shifts on the regular and get 2 10s (which I usually only take one) and one 30 min lunch break.

Florida, US and same here!
giftedburn0ut [OP]2 points1y ago
yeah, same here in NH, US.
venusiangirl1 points1y ago
Wait why would you only take one? is that by choice or are you denied it?
espressopaws1 points1y ago
Normally I just don't take it! I'm a shift supervisor so I'm always running around and just forget to take it or don't end up needing it. Gotta make sure my baristas are getting their breaks. 😁 They always come first!

Same in Cali
Torirock101 points1y ago
same. also in texas. isn’t this just starbucks policy and not a state thing? or what
espressopaws3 points1y ago
I'm almost 100% positive that the Starbucks policy for breaks is nation wide and doesn't change per state law. Technically in Texas you aren't legally required a break, but Starbucks policy protects it's US workers and sets a default for their breaks.

In Canada (BC) and for an 8 hour shift we would get 1 unpaid 30 and 2 paid 15 minute breaks. For a 4 hour shift it would be 1, 15 minute break
giftedburn0ut [OP]6 points1y ago
ooo I wish I got 15s, tens always feel so short
FTorrez813 points1y ago
IL, one unpaid 30, two paid 10s that don’t start until you get your drink+food item, whichever comes last
QuietCity3331 points1y ago
NV, one pair 10 for shifts under 6 hours, one paid 10 and one unpaid 30 for shifts under 8 hours, two paid tens and one unpaid 30 for shifts over 8 hours
awkward_cat_man_1 points1y ago
ive worked over 8 hours several times and i NEVER get my second 10. when im a borrowed partner i get 2 10s if i work 6 hours.

US, Washington state, it’s a little screwy. When I worked for Starbucks (until recently anyway) we got 10’s and 30’s depending on shift length. One 10 (on the clock) for each 4 hours worked and a 30 (off the clock) if over 5 hours. Also a second 10 (on the clock) if working 7 or more hours. No rules as far as timing of these breaks as long as they all occur.
I recently got a job at another nationally known chain department store (the red one) in the same state, and it’s similarly structured but we get 15 instead of 10 and there’s a couple additional rules as far as the timing of breaks. Like for instance if I work 5 hours or more I get a 30, *and* that 30 has to be taken before the 5th hour (so if I clock in at 8:30am, I have to take my 30 before 1:30pm). I also get my 15’s based on two hours worked instead of 4. When I was at bux if I worked less than 4 hours I would not have a break on the daily schedule, however at the new place if I work 2 hours or more I’m required to be given a 15 at some point.
Both employers have told me their break policy is in compliance with WA labor laws, I haven’t actually looked them up because I get plenty of time either way so I don’t care that much honestly.

Texas i get one 10 i only get a lunch break if i work more than 6 hours
fordfuckass1 points1y ago
IN and one unpaid thirty and one paid ten for 6 hours or more. I didn't know other places got two tens 😔
potatopoisoning2 points1y ago
Starbucks policy (regardless of local labor laws) is that a second 10 should populate on the DCR if you work 7 hours or more. If the break shows up on the DCR, you’re supposed to get it, regardless if the state says so or not.
fordfuckass2 points1y ago
Yeah that doesn't happen at my store. I usually work 8 hours and no one has said anything. I'll have to ask around about it.
