How do I tell my manager nicely she’s doing an awful job?(self.starbucksbaristas)

My manager called out today and had me fill in for her, I’m only a supervisor, and I have two extra call outs on a Friday plus I have to train this new girl who just came from Korea and is having a hard time communicating. How can I let her know nicely that isn’t good decision making and it’s taking a burden on me? This isn’t the first time it has happened. Today is Friday one of our busiest days also. I feel stuck..

“This is out of my pay grade.”
Also FYI, if your manager sees that you can do this, they’ll keep doing this to you. You need to stick up for yourself.

“I don’t feel like this responsibility falls under me, your role is a manager and as a manager I need you to support me by fulfilling the tasks that fall under your role, so that I can focus my energy on the responsibilities that fall under my job description.”

This is the type of language they use in corporate and if you use it towards them it can really throw them off but also could make them take you more seriously. It also hints that you know your rights as a worker and they should think twice before exploiting you. Bonus points if you can use the handbook again them.
Source: my manager is terrified of me 😆

If this is just a once-off, and your manager is out sick or something, I wouldn’t expect them to work (and get coverage) any more than I’d expect anyone else to work when out sick. If you need more support calling in for coverage, etc, reach out to your DM, or if you have a store that your store is particularly close with, and see if they can help out. Otherwise, your manager is a human and is allowed their sick days too. It just sucks that it coincides with other call outs and a trainee.

I’d definitely cover if she is sick and I do but I feel like she may just not wanted to have shown up

Could have been. Definitely had my suspicions of the same sometimes. But I feel like we gotta give the same benefit of the doubt to SMs that we want them to give to baristas and ss's. Usually my line is "once-off / once in a blue moon" or "regular habit."

if this is a constant problem id bring it up with your dm... my previous manager called out a lot and was not doing her job well at all and the dm got her transferred

I would let your DM know. Our previous DM was not holding people accountable with scheduling so we were having usually a call out per day without consequence. Or DM got our SM replaced
