I take out my nostril piercing to work and have retainers in my eyebrow, but on my first shift today i was told I need a retainer in my bridge too. I am confused by this because in the partner dress code, it is stated that one facial piercing is allowed :/ but when i brought that up he told me that rule only applies to septum or nostril piercings. Is this true? Are managers allowed to make rules like this for their stores if its not a company wide thing? If this isnt allowed, who should i go to? I feel a little bit caught off guard and disheartened and wanted to know other people’s opinions. Thanks for any help!
diphenhydranautical54 points1y ago
i believe this was an old rule? not 100% sure because i’ve only been here 7 or 8 months, but i think i’ve heard that it used to be septum/nostril only. as far as i know you should be fine
pinkiero35 points1y ago
Yea it is an old rule that’s still accessible if you look up the old dress code but that changed in i think 2019? So now we should be allowed one facial piercing of any kind, but my manager seems to think otherwise (°^°|||)
adolfop_42051 points1y ago
Honestly when in doubt about rules just call partner resources they are gonna tell you what is allowed and what’s not no bs just make sure u sound honestly confused cuz I wouldn’t trust them too much either as corporate can be really shady as seen with the whole unions situations
pinkiero15 points1y ago
Yeaa that definitely makes sense. Do you think they’ll guide me on how to bring up what the actual rules are with my manager? my biggest thing is that i want to be able to wear my piercing while also not upsetting him too much ó.ò
adolfop_4206 points1y ago
Im sure they will give you tips on it if u ask them but also at the end of the day you can try and walk on your toes with your store manager but that’s just not the Starbucks experience you should have u know? You should feel confortable around your store manager because they should be on your side yes they deal with corporate directly but that’s the job if store managers everywhere would do their jobs right and not stress about possible loosing their jobs because they are challenging the status quo too much for their dm’s liking most likely there wouldn’t be any unions because partners would feel safe to speak up… but that’s not the case in today’s Starbucks instead you can try and defend yourself basically from power crazy store manager with the bare minimum help from corporate cuz like you said at the end of the day your store manager can make everything on their power to not make you like the job to the point you are force to quit, it’s easier for them to do that then to fire you honestly, so the true solution ive found in my experience is to start a new in a new store pretty much or at least until the heat between you and that store manager cools down it’s sad but it’s the truth at the end of the day at the district level Starbucks is just a “political” field. That has been my experience at least for the passed years
pinkiero7 points1y ago
yea man i agree with you 100%, i’ll call them to ask for advice n then feel things out i guess. thank you i appreciate the help.
Substantial-Trash9209 points1y ago
I am a SM and you are allowed to wear one piercing anywhere on your face. If your SM still says no I would call Partner Relations! Starbucks is even looking to change the 1 piercing rule to more than 1 so hopefully your SM gets onboard soon. Goodluck!
yagirlcheetos4 points1y ago
I have a nose, septum and smiley, and my managers don’t care.
I believe that this is an old rule? But some people still follow it deeply. It’s so dumb. But no, managers can’t just make rules in the store because Starbucks isn’t a privately owned company and especially if it’s only really going to apply to one person.
ConfusionDisastrous845 points1y ago
1 facial piercing. It's allowed. Call PRSC.
diphenhydranautical36 points1y ago
i have 9 visible piercings on my face, three that are visible when i have a mask, (one of them being a bridge) and i was told i only had to get retainers for two as long as i had a mask, didn’t matter which ones
3plants31 points1y ago
I think they are wrong, I would call pcc and verify with them especially since it’s annoying for you and expensive art
Straight from partner hub on the updated dress code “one facial piercing allowed; no larger that the size of a dime” (unless ur in Quebec)
pinkiero12 points1y ago
Do you know if calling pcc or prsc would get back to him? I’m scared to make a bigger issue out of this as i am a new hire and im worried i’ll be tossed away quite easily 😅
3plants13 points1y ago
No, you can call them from home. It’s a secure work number to get info for HR, there’s no link to your boss unless you reported them. They will probably just read you exactly what partner hub says and could council you on how to approach your manager about it :)
pinkiero5 points1y ago
Thank you so much! I appreciate this a lot

This is from the updated in 2020 partner handbook “Jewelry and Body Piercings No jewelry is allowed on the hands or forearms, including watches, bracelets or wrist bands, except for one ring in the form of a plain band without stones or etchings Other jewelry must not be distracting. One small facial piercing no larger than a dime is allowed. Earrings or ear gauges must be no larger than a quarter. Necklaces, including medical alert necklaces, are allowed and must be worn under clothing. No other visible pierced jewelry or body adornments are allowed, including tongue studs and subdermal implants. Allowable jewelry must be simple in design and not be a health or safety hazard.” This is what PCC will tell you.

Most partners at my store have multiple piercings, including some bridges and other facial ones and it’s never been an issue here. I do believe the old rule was having no more than one facial piercing but I think it has since changed. I’m not sure bc my manager doesn’t care.
pinkiero2 points1y ago
yea most managers in my district dont care either, i seem to be the unlucky one ;-;
Enkeria926 points1y ago
I would look up the dress code policy on the partner hub and see what the company says.
pinkiero2 points1y ago
i’ve just finished hunting all over partner hub but i dont think the dress code is listed there ;-; thank u for the help though! ill probably just call pcc and see if they have any advice.
femalehomosapien185 points1y ago
I have a partner handbook. Bridges are allowed. Bye she’s a b. One facial pericng is allowed
YungCeddy6 points1y ago
Transfer lol
pinkiero5 points1y ago
maaan i kinda want to im already having a lot of problems here and i’ve only worked one day 😭 i’m scared to initiate any issues though and i cant tell if its something big enough to cause a fuss :/
femalehomosapien185 points1y ago
Also please be careful posting your face on here
pinkiero1 points1y ago
yea thanks for the heads up !! i’ll probably screenshot all the advice and delete the post soon i just want as many opinions as i can get
changbinsomnia3 points1y ago
idk dude, thats bs in my opinion. im gonna ramble here but i know the rule is one facial piercing but i have my eyebrow, nostril & lip pierced and i havent had any complaints from customers, coworkers or my manager. i probably get more compliments about it rather than anything else. i would hope that the more people with more facial piercings working would come to show people that how many piercings we have, doesn't affect the way we work
ThatBichAlex2 points1y ago
I know in the list of stuff Starbucks is rolling out in the next couple of months included updating dress code for piercings and tattoos.
sh3nan1gans_2 points1y ago
This isn’t true. We have many people at my location who have their face covered in piercings. Unless this is only a your location thing :/
mcdonaldspriteremix2 points1y ago
I've seen one of my store partners with a bridge piercing not sure if it's just your manager
lilkiosk2 points1y ago
Yeah you’re allowed to wear 1. I definitely had two for a while with no complaints. Back down to one though. The septum died a year or so ago :(
spooks_away2 points1y ago
(if you read the latest update they will give you a date when they are allowing our partners to have more piercings)
pinkiero1 points1y ago
I saw that!! I’m very excited but i dont know how to bring that up to my sm because it feels like his mind is set :/ siiigh
Joranaxis2 points1y ago
Unless it changed after I left corporate (i work in a tarbux now), they changed the rules aprox a month before I left in jan 2020 so you can have one facial piecing aside from a nostril piercing. I would double check the style guide but my SM at the time interpreted that to mean that you can have one nostril piercing and one other facial piercing anywhere on the face (which meant I could wear my medusa (philtrum) jewelry again rather than a spacer). Before this change, only one nostril piercing was allowed and septums were not (we had a girl with a septum who had to turn hers up and hide it while on the clock). So the septum counted as her one extra piercing and my medusa counted as mine. But that was over 2 years ago so maybe the style guide has changed again?
Gone_Overboard16322 points1y ago
Man this sucks. I only have one facial piercing, a septum, and I'm been told to hide it every shift. I have another coworker with two nose piercings who asked the assistant manager why I keep getting in trouble for it, and they said it's because my septum jewlery had the ball on the end, and that's not food safe, but they'd prefer if I didn't have it in general. I think sometimes you can't make anyone happy and they'll nitpick you till there's nothing left.
PoisonedKisses92 points1y ago
I have a bridge and it was always allowed after the updated dress code. It says one facial piercing
Apprehensive-You52612 points1y ago
Idk I just transferred stores and a few of my partners have piercings one had a bridge Medusa labret and septum and maybe a eyebrow one too don’t remember for sure but that’s still 4 without the eyebrow
Ordinary-Economist-72 points1y ago
I believe the new rule (or at least the most recent one I've read) is one facial piercing not exceeding the size of a dime? I'm not sure though, I have a few girls at my store that have more than one piercing, so I think it really comes down to how strict your manager is.
persona-22 points1y ago
I would be really careful fighting this. Retainers are technically allowed. It’s still jewelry in a piercing even if it’s clear. So even if you take your nostril out you have 3, which is against dress code. If you didn’t have your eyebrow ones then the bridge should be allowed.
Smallfemdom1 points1y ago
Sometimes shifts like to make up rules to prove their authority…
rlogranite1 points1y ago
Call partner contact and ask them what is acceptable and what is not acceptable.
Mission-Accident-9171 points1y ago
yall are misinformed in this comment section: COMPANY POLICY STATES you cant have more than a small nostril piercing and your ears done. Most of us will just wear a mask to avoid this policy
Knowelz1 points1y ago
It’s one facial piercing, but do you also put a retainer in for ur nose piercing? Otherwise that would be two
whhwkstk1 points1y ago
Bruh my boss doesnt even allow septums or nose rings. She says its only nose studs which confused me as my previous store didnt say anything about my nose ring that i had 3 years prior to transferring.
