not earning tips as a borrowed partner? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by giftedburn0ut
I recently transferred to a store that has not yet opened, and as a result I've worked a couple of shifts as a borrowed partner at an entirely new (to me) store. I asked last week if there were any tips for me and I was told that we're not getting tips if we're working there from the store that hasn't opened. I've worked shifts as a borrowed partner in a different district before and received tips and mileage. is this allowed? should I call e & c? I just wasn't expecting to not receive tips for hours worked and neither was anyone else from my in-construction store.

Yeah you are definitely supposed to be miles and mileage. I get what they are saying bc you are from an unopened store but you are still working at their location.

Where would the tips be coming from if there’s no customers?

I'm working as a borrowed partner in the meantime, my wording wasn't super clear, I'm so sorry

The borrowed partner store isn’t the confusing part. The part about it being new and unopened. So are you working to help out get the store ready for it’s grand opening? If not then are there customers being served which leads to tips being given?
Edit base on other comments…

Is the home store the new store waiting to for a grand opening?
Bottom line, if you are working any store that is serving customers and tips are being made, you are ABSOLUTELY entitled to tips for your time there.

yes, it is a pre existing store that is separate from my own that is open and has customers

Talk to the SM. You should be getting tips. All borrowed partners get tips if customers are tipping. Doesn’t matter if home store is not opened yet.

we get tips every time we work coverage at a different store, it’s company policy. talk to the sm of that store or even the dm if you have to.

ok thank you!

If you are not ‘coverage’ you don’t earn tips. ‘New store labour’ is not considered coverage it’s considered a learning role. If you are taking shifts you need it to be ‘coverage’ or the system thinks you’re training and therefore no tips. If you have just been put at that store until your store opens you are extra and likely labeled as the learning ‘new store labour’ role and are an extra person that doesn’t count towards the ‘coverage’

Does that make sense?

pretty sure I'm coverage, there were three people including me during peak the other day 😅

Wait how do you get mileage?
targetdollarsection -4 points 1y ago
if the store isn't opened yet, there aren't any customers to tip so you can't get any tips, even if you're borrowed. tips are pooled weekly from what customers give to us, so if there aren't any customers there aren't any tips to calculate into the weekly tips

edit: if you're borrowed, you should still get milage from your home store, and should talk to your SM if you're not being compensated for your milage

I could be reading it wrong, but it sounds like OP is working as a borrowed partner at an pre-existing store while waiting for the new one to open. In that case, the store would be receiving tips and OP should be given tips for hours worked.

I am, this is correct, I am working as a borrowed partner in a pre existing atore

ohh i might be misreading/misunderstanding then! apologies, op! in my experience, I only receive tips from the store I'm working at - so I've collected tips from stores I've been borrowed from and not received tips for those shifts at my home store. it seems unfair that op isn't getting tips from a store that isn't open, but the tip distribution sheet only calculates tips based off of hours worked at the particular store requesting the tip distribution to my knowledge...

I think the problem is the borrowed store is telling OP they aren't receiving tips from them, because OP's store isn't open yet. That is BS btw, they are withholding tips from you my friend
