Promoted to trainer! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by violetcruz
hello fellow partners! i recently got promoted to trainer! i’ve been working here for over a year now, and i train my first partner at the end of May! Any advice from other trainers/shift leads to help me out? :)

coffee tastings!! use them to get to know your trainee so they feel comfortable with you. i always did two every training shift one before we got in the floor and one at the end of the shift. i used the first one to get to know them the first day and then as a way to see what they remembered from the day before. the one at the end of their shift i used as a recap and to answer any questions they might have had. good luck!! wish you the best!

thank you so much! i love this idea. i’ll definitely do my best to implement coffee tastings/little meetings at the beginning and end of the shift. thanks! :)

Focus on delivery of coaching and cater it to the green bean. People do much better when they learn in a way that makes them feel motivated rather than put down.
Also, don't be afraid to correct yourself or admit that you don't know something and have to ask the SM. With my first trainee there were little things that came up that I had forgotten.
Lastly, resist the urge to give all the information at once, unless they inquire further of course. It is easier to build up from the basics over the training period.

Best of luck and congratulations!
