If the starting wage for a shift is $15.24 would that make the starting wage for a barista be $12? Basing my calculations on the difference between the pay for the two positions being 27%. (self.starbucksbaristas)

i'm in florida and also worked in nj and the shift pay is a 27% difference. baristas have been starting at $12 and when the base pay goes to $15 in august shifts will be making $19 and some change

Thank you! Good, was curious about Florida, so thanks!!😊
Ashamed_Equal 9 points 1y ago
There’s closer to a 50% difference where I am

Edit: Shifts starting out make $15 and and baristas make a little over $10 starting out

pennsylvania starting barista pay is $12. it’s nationally been increased to $12 and it was like last october
Ashamed_Equal -6 points 1y ago
I was told $10 when I asked tbh… but maybe that was outdated numbers? Idk, I don’t actually get to see what people make since I’m a barista
skieslarr 3 points 1y ago
yeah no when i started it was $10 but a month after i started it got increased, there was a corporate wide increase
Ashamed_Equal 2 points 1y ago
When did that happen? I’m at the max for baristas, so I’m out of the loop on all the raises going around (besides the one I didn’t get in January :( … definitely know about that one)

Edit: Jk, you said October, must’ve missed that part … that’s good they raised it from $10 tho!

when i started in center city philly, i was getting paid 12/hr
Ashamed_Equal 1 points 1y ago
Isn’t Philly higher than super rural PA?
HappyBarista [OP] 3 points 1y ago
Wow 😯 what state are you in?
Ashamed_Equal 6 points 1y ago

From my understanding, Shift pay is based off of the barista pay in the area you work. So if the starting pay for your baristas is $15 (which will be the base for a lot of baristas soon), shifts will make $19.05

Edit, meant to say that you're correct that it's a 27% difference OP

Great, thank you!

Was just gonna second this. I live in a rea that made really quick jumps from $10/hr to 12 to 15 for bsristas this last year. When we jumped to 12, my ssv rate started at 15.24. Now that baristas make 15, the ssv rate starts at 19.05, but I jumped up to 20 because I was over my 2 year mark then. (Adjustment for tenure may vary, but should be pretty close.)

That should go up a bit in August for pretty much anyone who is currently a partner (in corporate/non-union stores because that changes the game).
HappyBarista [OP] 1 points 1y ago
Thank you!

I’m also wondering if someone is just getting hired today or even within the next two weeks — they will still get the pay increase to $15 for baristas and $19 for ssv’s in August, right? My understanding is that the pay for everyone working in corporate stores (non-unionized) who is not already making $15/$19 will be raised to the $15/$19.

The 15/19 situation is supposed to be the new starting rate. They sent out communication this week about additional raises on Aug 1 for those hired before 05/02/22.

Those under 2 years will be bumped 3% of either the starting rate or their current rate, whichever ends up being higher.

2-5 year partners will be bumped to 7% of the starting rate or 5% of their. Current rate, whichever is higher. (I might have those backwards.)

5+ year partners will be bumped to 10% of one of those, depending which is higher.

There's also still an annual raise around January.
