So I’ve been training as a shift, still doing barista training right now but I’ve been there for about a month.

I find myself having severe anxiety attacks and I literally am brought to tears before and after my shift.

Is stuff like this going to pass or is this job just not for me?

I feel miserable but I don’t know what to do.

it is not going to pass. yes, you may get used to the job overtime, but it's not gonna make you dislike it any less. if anything, the longer you wait the more "stuck" you'll feel, and the more obligated you will feel to stay.

ive had a shift supervisor of mine that had the same thought process and as time went on i watched her get literally sick from stress more and more AT WORK!! im talking like she would be puking in the bathroom from stress.

if you can, i recommend you do yourself a favor and escape this company and get another job (sorry if this sentence sounds mean i am just trying to be genuine and this is the best way i can word it to get my point across). the physical and mental strain is a lot and you don't deserve to force yourself to suffer because you feel bad. life is short and you should prioritize your mental health over a shitty company with shitty customers that will just treat you like shit.

I appreciate the honesty. I was a shift manager at a local sub shop before this, and while it was stressful, we were all super tight knit and i was so comfortable there. Starbucks just has such a different feeling for me.

starbucks is so rushed, it’s not even about quality, it’s about pleasing the shitty customers and working till you develop arthritis in your arms. it’s brutal

so if i’m reading this correct, you applied/were hired as a shift and are still doing barista training?

i specifically hate the company for this exact reason, because i feel like you can’t even test the waters for how much you like the job before you have all these responsibilities thrown onto you. i’ve always heard if you find the average barista shift stressful then being an ssv is not for you (which is why im not one bc i freak out sometimes still lol) but i fucking HAAATE when they promote outside the company because you suddenly get all these responsibilities shoved onto you. the training process is already shitty enough in and of itself, i had to teach myself bar because i had about 30 mins of training on hot bar, none on cold. my STORE MANAGER was an outside hire and she has only been on bar once or twice. and she’s already stressed the fuck out and it’s falling back onto the shifts to pick up her slack bc she can’t do what she’s supposed to do as an sm if she doesn’t even know what she’s supposed to do. it sucks. but it never changes and i’m so sorry you experienced this firsthand. starbucks policies suck absolute ass, and im sure you’d thrive literally anywhere else, save yourself from the torment you’re putting yourself thru now.

No , in truth it’s not .. I am sitting on my bed before my actual shift in 30 mins .. I am shaking myself .
