Is gel polish and/or acrylics ok?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by peepeepoopaccount
I just started at SBX a few days ago and I didn’t realize nail polish wasn’t allowed. I guess this make sense since it can be a hazard, as well as stick on nails. But would regular gel polish or short acrylic nails with gel polish be ok since the nail polish doesn’t come off??

It's not allowed. Nail polish, Gel, Acrylic, press ons. Any and all "artificial nail coverings". I personally agree that it's dumb considering most food places allow it, as well as really what is nail polish compares to the fact that there is actually an allowed amount of bugs allowed in food manufacturing before it gets rejected.
But rules are rules. 😕

I haven’t painted my nails in 14 months. Welcome to the club lol

I haven’t had nice nails in two decades. I forgot what it was like.

I get manicures without any polish about once every other month. It’s usually less than $20 and it makes my hands feel amazing instead of scorched

I went out of town for 3 days last month, and the day before I left I got a manicure immediately after my shift was over. It was amazing

Before Starbucks I literally had nails .. the long bling nails it was soo hard lol I still feel like I have baby hands haha

Hey there, just a heads up, it's actually against the health and safety code for any food establishment to allow this. Due to that, Starbucks has that as a part of dress code so that they aren't liable in case something were to happen. So to assume that other places allow the nails is actually misinformation. Most places just don't actually care to follow the rule because more often than not there's somebody in management who wants to have their nails done. This is something that I've experienced at specific locations and other food related jobs sadly. But the rule doesn't come from within Starbucks, figured I'd share!

Nope. Naked nails. I’ve always preferred that but those who don’t suffer with it

It’s stupid but you literally can’t have anything on the nails, idk why since it’s not like we touch food
Apprehensive-Meep17 points1y ago
? Your fingers are all up on peoples lids, drinks, and food bags. I wouldn’t want someone with nails making my beverages either.

ALOT of fast food places allow nails, and there hands actually are on the food. The chances of a nail chipping off into a drink is slim

Ive worked at both SBUX and Wendys and Wendys requires gloves if you have any sort of polish on nails. Its an OSHA violation due to the chemicals in the polish and its a health hazard, SBUX completely says no.

Thank you for sharing the correct info!!

Like, I can kinda get nail polish bc I can see more irresponsible employees having chipped polish that comes off. But gel polish and acrylics won’t come off, the only issue I’d see is if the acrylics were too long or had glued on diamonds/gems or something!

I cannot tell you the amount of times I’ve found my former coworkers’ fake nails on the floor while I’m sweeping. It’s happened at every food service job I’ve worked at that’s allowed fake nails and like.. I get it I want to look cute and have my nails done, but bc work is so fast paced it would be so easy for someone to lose an acrylic or tip and not immediately notice.

it’s an issue with the chemicals in the nails

Yeah it’s weird. My last food related job, which was a boba shop, didnt gaf when many of my coworkers and myself had acrylics (some pretty long too) , nail polish, glue on, etc… I was hoping at least gel would be allowed!
cpv_913 points1y ago
Not for nothing but have you seen some of the disgusting, unkept, dirty nails on some of the hands holding cups and other things that get posted here. I would be much more concerned with 'that' touching or making my food or drinks than someone with gel nails which literally have to be sanded off.

nope 😔 just neat, clean, naked nails for starbies and if you ever want pretty nails you'll have to buy some to glue on rq and take off for work lol
