Barista placement is almost always up to a shifts discretion. It’s a part of the position to pick the positions that the baristas are in. Most stores have usual tasks are associated with certain positions for open/close, but if the supervisor thought that a change was better for the play then it’s up to them. In terms of the toll not being set up, I’m assuming that you were the first person to use the register that day. You’re technically supposed to assign yourself a till any time you go onto the register and you’re never supposed to use someone else’s. It’s possible that your shift just thought that you knew you’d have to assign a till.

Wait, do you only have one barista and a shift right before open? We always have 2 baristas and shift and the priority is always drive side. If a barista doesn’t show we make sure bar/DT gets opened first. Usually the shift will then make sure that we have our sandwiches closed to make sure we’re prepared. At our store typically whoever comes in after the openers either takes over on bar so we have one barista on all of drive thru, one on both bars, and then the other front and food.

4:30am is one barista and a shift. 5am is another barista. Sometimes 5:30am we have someone. That’s why I’m confused as to why I was pulled over there. Favoritism probably.

Yeah I mean as far as I know there’s no set rule. At my store the openers usually figure it out amongst ourselves who’s opening which side. Then it kind of goes by speed/comfort with doing bar and all of DT.

That’s true. I’m not very fast on bar. I’m really slow, I’ve only been there for 3 months. She’s been here for 2 years. So it’s like 😐

When I worked at Starbucks and opened, it was up to the SSV. Typically how it worked was whomever opened bar was on bar (getting machines tabbed and ready, filling the ice bins, teas, prepping inclusions and backups as needed), and the other person would do the case and they would be on drive. Then around 6:30ish the bar person would take their 10, and flip to drive to cover that person’s break.
