Partner safety (self.starbucksbaristas)

I’m not gonna get too much into the specifics, but my store is located in a pretty shady area, and we have some questionable characters come in every now and then. I’m a 20 yr old female SSV at my store, and I close like 5 days a week. We’ve had a ton of incidents lately and if I’m being honest I’m feeling really uncomfortable about some of the situations I’ve been put in recently. For partners who work at stores with high incidence rates, or in bad areas, what do y’all do to feel safe during your shifts? I have a connect with my SM tomorrow and really want to propose some actual solutions :/

We are in a shady area too and we finally had enough incidents and threats to partners and our manager they finally closed the lobby and made it drive thru only

Lowkey I talked with my SM once about walkie talkies or something because even a moderate yell didn’t really travel from front of house to the dish area, and esp at close there’s a lot of time just one person out front, which feels much less safe to me. Nothing really came of the conversation though.

All I can say is make sure you document every single thing that’s a documentable incident and hope corporate hears. I think safety for workers keeps getting shoved under the rug when we talk about wanting to be a welcoming enviroment (and on a greater level than just Starbucks.)

Go digging through the outdoor safety training stuff. I’m like 95% sure somewhere buried in there is the option to get whistles if you don’t all have headset access.
