Hey! I was a coffee manager at my Ingles and then went to a corporate store. A licensed store is usually less busy-- my store made around 12k a week while my corporate store makes 50k a week. You'll have to learn how to write on the cups and the drink codes. I personally got so used to taking orders on DTO where I don't see them so it's an adjustment to only taking orders in front of you. Whenever you need stuff, it's a long walk to the back room so get ready for steps. It's a lot slower pace. That's really great you'll be making more. Just note that you most likely will not get free drinks anymore. My store offered 0 perks that a corporate store offers. You would lose all your corporate benefits, and that is the main reason why I transferred to a corporate store. You could possibly do parttime at both if the licensed store allows. Good luck!

thank you! personally, i am not working at a corporate store for the benefits as i am a minor and still living at home with my parents insurance and such. do you keep the same partner numbers at a licensed store? do license employees get partner discount?

No and no. You are no longer a “partner”. I’ve worked both. Corporate is best. At corporate you are part of a team of people. At licensed stores, yes it’s slower but you are alone to do it all. It might be slow one minute and then a whole soccer team might walk in and want food and drinks and you’re on your own to ring every order, write your cups, make all the food and drinks…by yourself. You also have to do all the cleaning, dishes, fill the ice, cups, lids, make the mocha…oh yeah, count and pull the sandwiches and pastries, do the temps. Also it’s a completely different POS. You’ll have to learn that whole new system. Minimum wage is going to $15 AND Corporate stores are supposed to be raising the wages in August. I’d really think about leaving a team you already know and enjoy working with.
You said there are some things about your store that are unforgiving. What are they?

mainly a very poor management team and a toxic dynamic between older and younger baristas (30+ year olds blatantly talking down to the high schoolers). management at my store does not do much, if anything, so having to do everything myself would really be nothing new. more on the toxic environment: every SSV constantly talks badly about the others behind their backs. we have had 16 people quit in the past few months because of the sheer disrespect and chaos at the store. it is well known around town that my store is a mess. i keep thinking “something’s gotta give here soon” but i have been thinking that for months and nothing has seemed to change.

on that note, i really just do not enjoy going to work anymore. the drive thru is sort of a trigger for my anxiety and i have been thinking of leaving for a cafe only store but the only one in my area is relatively out of my way. honestly, if leaving my corporate benefits means never having to work a drive thru ever again, it may be worth it. i feel like i have the rest of my life to work a job that i don’t like.

I agree with the other comment here saying to go to the store you’re thinking about working at as a customer first and check out the vibe. I would just observe, go at different times of the day and night and see if they staff more than one person. Maybe it’s different where you are thinking about working. Ask how long they have been working there, what do they like/dislike about it…things like that. It might be managed differently than the licensed store where I worked. Where I worked the management lied and didn’t care about our area. They promised things and didn’t come through. They expected you to manage but you had no authority and no means to do anything. I just had to share my experience since I’ve worked for both corporate and licensed. I wish you the BEST!😊

I say go for it dude! I would go as a customer first and catch the vibe. I do miss a licensed store sometimes but I'm here for the benefits.

When you work at a licensed store you're no longer an employee of Starbucks.

You're an employee of Kroger/Target/whatever.
